i havent been scared by a game in a while so i'm thinking about picking up a survival horror joint. i played resident evil 5 through with a friend on co-op. fun, but not scary. was thinking about left 4 dead but then i just read that post about it and 6.7 doesnt sound to appealing. so i'm thinking about getting DEAD SPACE or f.e.a.r. but f.e.a.r i heard wasnt really a survival horror but was pretty scary. but if anyone has any suggestions i'm open.

Not all scary games are survival horror. In fact most of the best ones aren't, if you ask me.

My favorites are older ones: System Shock 2 and They Hunger. The Suffering was creepy and a lot of fun. Sort of survival horror except you're never really short on ammo.

EDIT: I just noticed "360" in the title. The Suffering is a backward compatible Xbox title.

From what I've heard Dead Space is probably the scariest thing out right now...

RE5 isn't meant to really be "scary"...

No, but it is awesome.

And yes, Dead Space is pretty freaky if you ask me.

"Doom 4" - whenever it gets released.

Barring that I've got to agree that there was an abundance of atmospheric creepiness to "The Suffering".

I've heard great things about "Fatal Frame" (Xbox title - but backwards compatible) as well, but haven't played it - I"m betting its easy enough to find in the bargin bin though. "The Thing" is one that flew under my radar but I've been meaning to look for it when I'm in Gamestop but I always forget.

"Doom 3" is my favourite horror game that I actually own though. Its got a great atmosphere, the flashlight idea is great and the story told through the discovered datapads makes their discovery add a lot to the overall story. And even though its an Xbox game it looks as good as many 360 titles.

Hmmm...maybe I need to go pick up a copy of "Resurrection of Evil" since I've never played it.

I really liked bioshock. Its really not all that scary it's more demented and disturbing. Like when you get to see how the make the little sisters. I would check the game out, its a great game and is easy to pick up and play, it really is a disturbing game.

deadrising is awesome! not so much horror just because zombies are more fun than scary imo, but deadspace is a good challenging survival horror if you play on hard your first play through

f.e.a.r. was pretty riteous too, depends on what your scare factor is, but it was deff creepy and bone chilling in a few scenes. dead rising is great fun, not scary at all, but addicting as hell for a bit. other than that, everything else mentioned +1

Funny, no one has mentioned Silent Hill, Condemned, or Alone in the Dark. Silent Hill is notorious for scaring the s*** out of people, especially when you play at night, with the lights off, and the surround sound on.

I don't know about anyone else but I get pretty freaked playing Fallout 3, They you are walking along, next thing you know you have a Deathclaw chasing you or worse yet you're forced to run backwards with a Giant Radscorpion (or 2) chasing you while you blast away at tit/them with a shotgun.

The original Alone in the Dark was effing great. It was scary, too, really atmospheric but also just WEIRD. I mean the final confrontation is with some kind of evil possessed tree thingy that shoots fireballs. Really eerie game.

Do you mean the "ORIGINAL" Alone In The Dark back on the NES because that's the one I remember playing. I had never played a game like that before, it was very unique.

There were never any NES Alone in the Dark games. The first ones were for the PC only, after the NES's time and in 3D it could never have handled.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW9GmM8wY_M

Clunky controls and melee combat was easy to screw up, but it was creepy and fun.

+1 for Dead Space

My friend said that when he plays it with his bro, they're genuinely scared to walk down a hallway and they end up just standing there, haha.

Dead Space with a mean sound system will make you s*** urself. The creepy voices coming from the back speakers and random times, at one point i turned my system to 2.1 mode cuz i was constantly turning around cuz i felt like there was someone behind me. The whispers are so subtle that its just enough to fool you that there is some one there.

Project Origin truly creepy, i only put this lower than DeadSpace cu we have slow mo which help. But the ghost effects need to medal of excellence, you'll be walking minding your own business when a ghost phases in 2 feet away from, you turn pull the trigger and it phases out, and reappears behind you

Condemned both games were scary, but the first one had those frikkin mannequins. I'll never look at mannequins the same again

Ninja Gaiden II put it on Master Ninja and you will genuinely be scared of every boss that comes your way.

Ya, Dead Space is probably the creepiest. Even once you utterly destroyed something, it could come back and be like "HELLO THERE!" *Tap your random buttons to get out of my deadly grasps!* AND then your guy is like which turns into to their dead bodies! AGAIN! lol

I never got far enough in Condemned to find out how scary it was. I couldn't tolerate playing a game where your path is often obstructed by overturned BUCKETS on the floor. And you can't jump over them because you can't jump at all.

Condemned gets scary as s***, especially once you get out of the first building and get into the abandoned mall, the manaquins will haunt your dreams.

Silent Hill 5, i take it you mean Homecoming right?

Well not as scary as what i posted earlier ^^ but its definitely pretty creepy. Also, the game isnt as polished as the other A-AA titles in its class, but im sure you got it for cheap so id say its worth it.

P.S I only played the PC version so some the glitches i experience might be exclusive to the PC.

i just bought dead space yesterday and have been playing it for about 5 minutes now.... GOD DAMN! this game is scary as f***! i got the tv turned up extra loud and s***, and mo f***in aliens are sneakin up behind me and s***! only 2 things i dont like is the view, i like 3rd person but this is a wierd 3rd person, though i think they designed it like this on purpose because you have one hell of a blind spot on your left side and thats where the last 2 aliens i got attacked by came from. 2nd is the speed, you seem slow and the aliens move WAY faster than you so it makes it difficult trying to dodge or get the f*** out of the way, but again i think this may have been done on purpose for the whole "you cant escape" scare factor, thing is it kind of forces you to fight every creature which seems like it'd waste alot of time, health and ammo. but other than that so far so good i'd recommend it to anyone who likes being scared s***less

Man I agree, that game screws with my senses on so many levels. It can be just as scary when the monsters show up as when they don't...you're walking down corridors in that clanky ship hearing machines switch on and off, the AI is softly speaking techno babble because it's malfunctioning, things are scurrying above and below you under the deck plating...it's freaky! It's the suspense that gets you!

EXACTLY plus it f***s with your mind because there will be shadows of things sneaking up behind you or running by you and you turn around and there's nothing there.
