1996 was the first year Nissan used OBDII, therefore OBDII scanners will not work on 1995 and older.

A PROPER CONSULT II has adapters for both but cost $6500 brand newHere's a used Consult II on ebay current at $3,000:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...A1171

You can buy an OBD2 code reader for the Jetta for as cheap as $30 on ebay. It will read and display codes only. For more $ you get more features. IIRC there's two types of code readers- universal and german made. Make sure to get the right one.

For the 94Q you have 2 options (plan A)- Pull the codes manually off the ECU or buy a cable and program to be able to plug into the port in the passenger compartment fuse box. Plan B would be to pay the stealership an hour's labor to pull the codes using their $6000 Consult.

To pull codes manually you'll need to get to the ECU mounted behind the passenger side kick panel. Go to the Tech Help section at Q45.org for full instructions.

To get your laptop set up with a program and cable I recommend Blazt/Nissan Data Scan for probably the most expensive ($135) but hassle free set up. Superb customer support that you won't get from any of the other ebay sellers of cables or consult programs.
