Which one is needed? Not an active suspension nor Nav system.

Local NAPA store offers five at prices varying from ? up to in excess of 300 bucks. Of course the most expensive one has more "gee whiz" stuff and can do more than I understand right now.

As in all things available for cars, and everything else in the USA, there are many choices, too many sometimes, but...

New tool for me. My '95 Legend has the blinking lite system for codes and then to the FSM. This is not part of the Q45 I am assuming, and I read, on these boards, about using the "scanner" or "consult" to extract codes? Is the scanner such as what NAPA sell, and others, the "consult"?

The owner of the NAPA store tell me the that what he sells is what I need? The guy is pretty knowledgeable about car in general and I have been a customer for a long time so I do trust him but some disinterested info would be appreciated.

TIA

Jack

Something with some memory and the ablility to read as many codes as possible.

Pep Boys here sell one that is usually discounted down to $130 form $200.

If you have a harbor freight in your area check them out... they have a couple of OBDII Scanners and a lot of sales this time of year.

Hey max since you "insulted" my Legend you owe me more for your redemption.

Looking in the FSM (I have IT in hand) I note that there are many codes, P+number. This is what you are referring to? How will I know if the Consult I could purchase will have what it takes to read all those codes? I'm really at a loss and don't really know enough yet to ask the sellers, who may well be dumber than I, the right questions.

I am not really constrained by "the low funds, syndrome" but nor do I want to buy stuff I really don't need.

TIA Jack

But I also have a first generation Legend LS.

A good reader will show most of the P codes. A Consult is a a proprietary Nissan device, not necessary on the OBD II cars, unless you need to activate proprietary systems like ABS, etc.

The CONSULT is quite expensive right? (The one in the FSM illustrations) But would be the best thing for Pre-OBDII Q's? A friend of mine was trying to get me to let him connect his laptop to my car and "tune" it. I didn't trust it so I told him maybe later. I wanted to get some more info first.
