I bought and scanned another article, this one from Automobile Magazine, 1989:

http://www.q45.org/1989automobilemag

It compares the Q45, Lexus LS400, Audi V8, MB 300E, and BMW 535. As always, Automobile Magazine shows its excellence by accurately predicting the outcome of the US luxury car market ten years down the road.

I really like the comments about the Q... They said that it has all the right touches and stuff, but it just doesnt turn heads...

Except they were wrong when they said "BMW today, Infiniti tomorrow".....

Oh, I don't know. I would still rather have the Q45 from that comparision test than any of the others. Only the Mercedes and the odd BMW 535i from that vintage still are running around with the Q.

But it is too bad Infiniti backed away from performance with the FY33 model. Performance costs money, and the Q45 always cost more than the all conquering LS400 in the early years.

I used to really love the 300-series body (W124?). Looked great from 86-93 (and 94-95).

But the car was a dog. Had some power, but not enough to move that tank around town. Passing was great on the highway but throttle response was poor. Body roll was excessive. The sound system was crystal clear but weak, and the interior was spectacular. It was like driving around in a bank vault decorated in fine wood and parchment leather.

I dont really miss it.

JEsda that was the W123, considered to be the most reliable MB of the times (300D's have the million mile club)

I remember reading those comparo test's in the car mags. The Q never won 1st. That sucked. I'm organizing my old car mags now and I be on the lookout for some more of them. I'll try to send you some scans Jesda.
