I can take a piece of this one, as I have had a SC intalled in my Versa now for over a year.
I put it in primarily to find out for myself how driving conditions, different brands and my own home brew gas additives effect MPG's.Today was a good example..we were coming back home in a strong tail wind that was blowing 28 to 52 KPH...
I have a stretch of road that I use for mpg testing and at the 'mark' point with the tail wind, I was getting 42 mpg (U.S.) at 60 mph on the SG.
I went down the road a mile, turned around and resumed the cruise back to 60 mph, for the run back to the 'mark-point' and the SG registered 26 mpgs, into the wind.
That's a 16 mpg difference.
Without the SG delivering the instant mpg readout, anything that you do to improve mpg performance takes forever to get any concrete results.
Filling and re-filling the gas tank to the exact same spot is almost impossible and gives you only confusing 'hit and miss' results.
The SG immediatly tells you if the gas you just bought, is good, or bad for the car. I have noticed a huge difference in performance with different brands of regular gas.
(My Versa runs better, and further on Chevron)
