I just picked up a ScanGauge2 ODB2 reader / trip computer / digital gauge for my Rogue. It is a rather slick device (for the uber geek like myself) that works well with the Rogue. It took 30 seconds to install.

I mounted it in the nook just above the inside fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel. If anyone is looking for a decent OBD2 reader that doubles as a performance monitor and trip computer I think this one is worth a look.

PS. If you live in or around Ottawa Ontario Canada there is a dealer in town that carries these and gave me $10 off for picking it up at the shop. See Gifford Automotive ( giffordautomotive.com ).

This is a pic of the gauge just above the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel. I think it is the only real place it will fit cleanly.

And a better one (?) this morning

Hey way cool Tellurian, I think I'll surf ebay for one. Looks like you can get real time fuel economy ratings, have you tried that yet, and if so, what are you getting 'round town and on the highway??

So far I've only been around town with the car so I can't say much about fuel economy on the highway. The real time feedback is quite interesting and a real eyeopener (for me). If I drive carefully (in a 60kph zone ( ~37mph) with no acceleration I can get it down to 6.7 l/100 km (~35.1 mpg) in the city (FWD S model) ... but that is not normal, because you really do a lot of stop and go. When you go moderately (i.e. not slow, but not flooring it either) from a stop the instantaneous fuel economy can jump right up to 35 l/100km (~6.7 mpg)!!! Your driving habits will greatly effect fuel economy (no sh_t sherlock -eh?). I'm moderately aggressive and I find I am getting ~12 l/100km ( something around 20 mpg) in the city. But I know I can drop that down a lot by driving more conservatively. I doubt I can average the rated city fuel economy ... I just can't drive THAT conservatively. I expect that once the vehicle is broken in (just did my first fillup this morning) and with a bit more care I can expect around 10l/100 km (23.5 mpg) in the city. If you are a hypermiler I am sure you can better the rated specs (unless you live in a very hilly area).

I generally have the scangauge set to monitor 4 things: - average fuel consumption - instantaneous horsepower output - instantaneous engine load - average speed

Interestingly, I have yet to use more than 80-some-odd horsepower, but there are few hills around here and I don't do 1/4 mile drags a lot . The tool is really neat, it does a lot of things. Ever since I got stung for the classic "loose gas cap engine light" ... (had to pay $120 just to hook up an ODB2 reader to my last vehicle, even before they did anything) I have been looking for a good ODB2 reader ... This thing (ScanGauge2) does way more than just that! I like it! It has already helped change my driving habits to economise on fuel. I still have to tune it a bit for this car to get more accurate fuel economy readings (easy to do).

Update: Highway driving:

I took a trip into the country today and got ~8.0 l/100 km (29.4 mpg) on relatively level roads at 90kph ( 56mph). Again I need to calibrate the Scangauge2 and once the car is past its break-in period I think the fuel efficiency reading will be better.

It's just to the left of and under the steering wheel, you can't miss it if you look up from underneath.

It just did (stick), maybe you got some bad velcro (?) or there was some dirt or something just where you tried to stick it.

When I put it on I pressed on it ~really~ hard for 30 seconds to a minute. I did that 3 or 4 times in a row, it hasn't budged. I know this is obvious, but clean the area where you want to put it and try again but with some industrial strength velcro, not the regular household stuff.

Ditto on the 'Love the ScanGauge2' .
