Anyone ever seen or used anything like this? It's very intriguing for $40 but I wonder if it's a bunch of bull.

I have one and it works just fine but you will have too find some software for your laptop like: Conzult and a few others or you can buy the kit that includes a usb connection instead of a RS232 port???

Don't buy that one.
The pins are crappy and I ended up throwing it away.

This is much better:

The software that comes with it isn't that great if I remember correctly.

I'm using ECUTalk now.

I love having it, I can check all my sensors super easily.

I have the exact one in the original post but I bought it on ebay, probably the same guy though. Pin issue was solved by flattening them with pliers then taping it together, everything was then ran behind my dash and came out on the passenger side where the latop could easily hook up with no wire to move out of the way. the Emance software it tells you to download works fantastic too.

yes what he said. the pins will mess up your consult port for proper consult plugs. massive backyard job that one.

the chinese one linked to on ebay is the better of the two if you're going 'cheap'. just get a proper FTDI usb/serial adaptor (~$20) if you dont want problems (maybe try your luck on $2 ebay chinese special usb/serial, but most people are just wasting their time with them)

That's what I did, Radioshack had a Serial/USB cable, worked great!

Btw, NewKleer, are you ever going to do a patch to allow skinning the gauges on the ECUtalk program?

I also have the one in the first post,it is a backyard job but it work the software also is good and has save me alot of downtime..and jonathan u can reset the code and it will also tell you what sensor it is...and if u want to go a little bit further you can buy a cheap pda and attach it to ur steering wheel insted of haveing ur laptop with you the whole time.. :)
