have scan gauge & wonder exactly how much more accurate it is as opposed to the real guages in the car? notice scan gauge reads slower mph than actual & gas gauge is diff. anyone know answer?

just got a scangage from ebay. in the manual they described how to make MPH adjustment with gps or miles post on the freeway and also how to adjust Mph if you replaced stock tire with different tire size. go to "scangage.com and download the manual

I think you did get one... I don't have a ScanGuage, but I read the manual when I was considering getting one. It does have a section on calibrating it to match your car. I'd try that first, if I were you.

i didnt ask how to calibrate scan gauge. if u didnt read correctly what i asked was HOW accurate it was compared to the guages in the car, which is more accurate the scan gauge hooked directly to the obd port or the guages in the car. not trying to sound like a smart *** but was just trying to see if anyone with a S/G could answer my question. thanks

I'm not sure if anyone can answer that question.

Speedometers are inherently (slightly) inaccurate. I would guess variance from car to car is pretty slight on newer vehicles, but I've driven side by side before with a friend (older car, not the Versa) and supposedly our speeds were 3 or 4 MPH different, despite being fairly "locked in".

So I'm not sure which is "correct" the ScanGauge or your Speedo. I guess checking your speed via GPS or some such method could help - but I'd guess even that has some margin of error.

About the gas gauge - analog gas gauges are very inaccurate. The system uses a float in the tank to measure how much gas is left. The tank's asymmetric shape and other factors usually lead to inaccuracies in measurement. Of course, the ScanGauge is getting a reading via the OBD system from that same float - so then it's just a matter of how the analog dash gauge displays that value, I suppose.

How much is the variance between the two readings, for speed and gas?

I don't understand something , if you ask how it compared to trip computer you have built-in (in the TIIDA you such a gadget ) , I guess Rockhound is right it reads from the OBD , more then that I think that basically all the Versa's has Trip computer - and it's only matter of if it's "enabled" or not , if you want to calculate your gas consumption - it is accurate - like most of the tanks - is has difficulties reading how much gas left in it. BUT the ECU knows exactly how much gas ihas been pumped and goes to the injectors ,every second (in the TIIDA the trip computer tells you the immediate consumption when you don't step on the exelarator it indicate 0 L/100km ) and if it can estimated how gas left in tank it can display by simple calculation how far you can drive till the next gas station.

Sorry about how my reply sounded, but my point was that the ScanGuage company says you need to calibrate the mph settings, so until you do it's pretty much guaranteed it won't be accurate. As for gas usage, Tweety and Rockhound hit it pretty well.
