My mom just bought a 07 Nissan versa, We have always owned German cars and this is her first new car purchase. So far we love it. I have a question. We got the sl package with intel key + remote start + alarm. Is the alarm going to defeat the purpose of intel key since I have to disarm it with the key fob before I open the doors? If I have the alarm armed and the itel key in my pocket, I can open the door but the alarm sounds.

Anyway, I hope to be here for a while since we love the versa! Thanks for the help in advance

Also, what's the deal with no temp gauge?

The aftermarket remote start + alarm does defeat the purpose of the iKey package.

The SL has a built in alarm, albeit just a basic one that goes off if a door is opened. No glass sensors or shock sensors or anything fancy (and, IMO, obnoxious and unreliable) like that.

Now that you have this add-on, which cannot be integrated into the stock iKey system, you have to separately disarm from the aftermarket remote and unlock the doors using the iKey system.

Also, please read the local regulations regarding running unattended vehicles VERY carefully. In my state, remote starts are technically illegal (though they can still be sold because they are legal for use if your car is parked inside your own private garage, but not on city streets where people ACTUALLY use them) because it is illegal to leave any running vehicle unattended. Such a regulation would make the remote start illegal to use for its intended purpose (and thus, really REALLY worthwhile to have removed).

Many a wise man has asked this, and as far as we can tell... it was either something that was saving them $30 per car, or they simply didn't have the space for it on the dash. It's more or less unanimous that we would prefer to have an actual gauge, but c'est la vie.

Thanks for the help. It sucks that it kind of defeats the purpose but my mom really wanted it for those cold winter days. And the car sits in a private parking garage. To bad I didn't know this before we would have just went with the remote start, I don't even think it was possible without alarm. Is there any way of disabling the alarm and keeping the remote start so the car can be used with the intelligent key never having to be touched? (except for remote start that is)

Since this was an aftermarket install they should have given you the instructions that came with the alarm/remote start. If not, I'd call the place that installed it and ask them about it. It does seem redundant that you have (by all accounts) 2 alarms on the car.

Now I'm no expert or anything but I'd think you should be able to permanently disarm the alarm and still have the remote start. Or would just not ever arming the alarm work?

The alarm was installed by nissan and I only have the nissan key fob. I press lock twice for the remote start.

OK, that just makes my brain hurt. That means your Nissan dealer decided to take an aftermarket alarm and integrate it into the stock RF system.

They would have had to preempt the factory system to make this work.

So they may have diabled all or part of your factory system and spliced in the aftermarket system. This may be a worse scenario... they may not be able to ever un-do what they did to the car.

No offense... but your S and his SL w/iKey aren't really alike at all in function. So how he has to use his now is WAY different than it was intended to run.

Well I have been messing with it and it turns out everything works fine. I don't have to pull my key our for anything. I unlock/lock as usual and when i lock the alarm arms itself. I think it's cool especially where I live. Even just for the red light glowing that will stop people up to certain point. Plus the remote start is a plus for this winter coming up. Anyway nissan did a good job, I guess I have an after market alarm in my remote but it works good. I love it. This car is awesome. To bad it's my mom's
