My new Altima Coupe seems to have only two license plate screw holes. Is this so? Or do two more exist under those rubber pads?

???

It's only supposed to have two! Every car I've ever owned had only two.

Only 2 holes per license plate. My coupe does not have holes in the front.

Well- call me anal or whatever term you like. But I think almost any engineer would tell you that an object with that much area should have at least three points of attachment. My Tennessee plate has four holes and the dealer's very generic plastic frame has four holes. But the car only has two. I just came from the garage to actually look for myself. There are two rubber foam pads so that when you close the trunk-- the flopping license plate doesn't rattle-- as much. I know I'll never bring myself to drill more holes. Guess I'll have to come up with some kind of stick on device that would provide two more holes. Poor detail for a car that I really like.

if you want to eliminate the rattle. How about using some 3m double sided tape to stick the plate to the car.

Two screws on the top and it hold on just fine. No need to worry.

"hold on just fine"

No. No it doesn't. It flops each time I close it. The two points serve as a crude hinge. It may never fall off. But it isn't fine. Just call me picky.

I used 3M tape on an aftermarket license plate frame. Doens't rattle at all.

Anyone have a suggestion for a license plate frame? I have the same problem, everytime I go to the car wash the brushes bend my plate and its because of having only two screws....

If you guys are that serious about having 3 or 4-point screw downs, your only option would be to drill 1 or 2 holes.

If you're worried about the rattle, you could always you a sound deadening material like Dynamat or Accumat. They even sell license plate frame kits. Here's a link: http://www.stompaudio.com/inde...y=USD

As someone already mentioned, just put a strip of 3M double-sided tape on the bottom where there are no holes.

As for license plates, eBay is full of nice chrome "Altima" or "Nismo" plates for about $8-13 each.

Wow! That trumps my complaint. As I was driving to work this morning it occurred to me why these other guys aren't bothered by the two point attachment. They probably don't open their trunk very often. I use my trunk for my brief case. In my old sedan I used the back seat. So I use the trunk two or three times, every day. When I close it the plate catches air and lifts a little. Then it slaps the trunk lid. It's not the end of the world. I'll put some tape on it. Just don't tell me it's a non-issue. It's an engineering error. Maybe Nissan will take notice and do a simple recall taking the responsibility for avoiding wires or hoses. We won't have any clout though if most folks don't care.

Nissan will never do anything about it. I don't think it's a design flaw because I'd say over 90% of cars are made like this. Of course that's just a number I threw out there, but every Nissan (four) I've owned was the same. I can see where you'd get irritated with that rattling sound since you're in your trunk so much. I go in maybe once a week or so

Engineering error? Recall? ....lol This is a license plate...

Just get a frame, got one today, works great.

They also have frames where you can slide the plate inside, thus minimizing the noise.

I'm certainly not actually expecting Nissan to do anything about it. But-- the fact that insufficient fastening has been going on for years has nothing to do with it. Do you realize how many people we blew through windshields before seat belts came along. It was just accepted as one of the hazards of driving. It wasn't something that needed fixing. I realize the the license plate thing doesn't compare to the seat belt thing but both problems were allowed to continue simply because "we've always done it that way".

Help me understand how the frame that would use the same two points of attachment would change anything for the better. The frame will simply add more mass exacerbating the problem.

There's only two possibilities unless I'm overlooking something: an adhesive fix and a drill-more-holes fix.

Have you tried the frame yet? If you did, and still have a problem...it's probably user error because mine is solid even without tape...

Maybe the dealer can help you?

Unless you want to wait for a recall....

There will be no recall. Nissan will not take back the cars and drill more holes for you. Many cars have this, and it is not a big 'flaw' so to speak. The best solutions are a heavy, sturdy frame or double-sided tape.

It's funny though! What a nice read after the boring G35 forum.

At least G35 people problem have something to talk about, rather than complain about ratting license plates and how they're an engineering mistake.

I really love my new AC.

I'm sorry you guys/gals can't realize that the mentioning of even the smallest little annoyance can prompt makers to improve already great products. So go ahead and put your double sided foam tape in and six months later you can scrape it off and put in a fresh piece and be happy knowing that only the most ridiculous people in the world would prefer a couple more screws from the factory. End

Outdoor double sided tape...you need help man!

I wish I had time to worry about if my car had more license plate holes!

Okay I'm done.
