Well- call me anal or whatever term you like. But I think almost any engineer would tell you that an object with that much area should have at least three points of attachment. My Tennessee plate has four holes and the dealer's very generic plastic frame has four holes. But the car only has two. I just came from the garage to actually look for myself. There are two rubber foam pads so that when you close the trunk-- the flopping license plate doesn't rattle-- as much. I know I'll never bring myself to drill more holes. Guess I'll have to come up with some kind of stick on device that would provide two more holes. Poor detail for a car that I really like.generic808 wrote: ???
It's only supposed to have two! Every car I've ever owned had only two.

Anyone have a suggestion for a license plate frame? I have the same problem, everytime I go to the car wash the brushes bend my plate and its because of having only two screws....Couper wrote:

No. No it doesn't. It flops each time I close it. The two points serve as a crude hinge. It may never fall off. But it isn't fine. Just call me picky.
If you guys are that serious about having 3 or 4-point screw downs, your only option would be to drill 1 or 2 holes.Silver08Coupe wrote:

Wow! That trumps my complaint. As I was driving to work this morning it occurred to me why these other guys aren't bothered by the two point attachment. They probably don't open their trunk very often. I use my trunk for my brief case. In my old sedan I used the back seat. So I use the trunk two or three times, every day. When I close it the plate catches air and lifts a little. Then it slaps the trunk lid. It's not the end of the world. I'll put some tape on it. Just don't tell me it's a non-issue. It's an engineering error. Maybe Nissan will take notice and do a simple recall taking the responsibility for avoiding wires or hoses. We won't have any clout though if most folks don't care.Silver08Coupe wrote:

Engineering error? Recall? ....lol This is a license plate...Couper wrote:

I'm certainly not actually expecting Nissan to do anything about it. But-- the fact that insufficient fastening has been going on for years has nothing to do with it. Do you realize how many people we blew through windshields before seat belts came along. It was just accepted as one of the hazards of driving. It wasn't something that needed fixing. I realize the the license plate thing doesn't compare to the seat belt thing but both problems were allowed to continue simply because "we've always done it that way".generic808 wrote:Nissan will never do anything about it. I don't think it's a design flaw because I'd say over 90% of cars are made like this.
Help me understand how the frame that would use the same two points of attachment would change anything for the better. The frame will simply add more mass exacerbating the problem.Silver08Coupe wrote:

Just get a frame, got one today, works great.
Have you tried the frame yet? If you did, and still have a problem...it's probably user error because mine is solid even without tape...Couper wrote:

There's only two possibilities unless I'm overlooking something: an adhesive fix and a drill-more-holes fix.

At least G35 people problem have something to talk about, rather than complain about ratting license plates and how they're an engineering mistake.c_anderson117 wrote:It's funny though! What a nice read after the boring G35 forum.
I really love my new AC.SHIFT_2.5S wrote:

Outdoor double sided tape...you need help man!Couper wrote:

I'm sorry you guys/gals can't realize that the mentioning of even the smallest little annoyance can prompt makers to improve already great products. So go ahead and put your double sided foam tape in and six months later you can scrape it off and put in a fresh piece and be happy knowing that only the most ridiculous people in the world would prefer a couple more screws from the factory.
