So I'm out in DC for work and decided to catch Skyline last night. Donald Faison was solid but dude form 24, Eric Balfour, sucked a**. Granted his lines were really cheesy but his soap opera style didn't help. The CGI was OKAY but mostly cartoony. I think District 9 had it just right with the photorealism but when you've got Peter Jackson backing you that's much easier. When it comes to FX there are really 2 determining factors that separate the amazing from the lack luster. Budget and director. Both seemed sub par for skyline. The ending was cool but it was somewhat stale leading up to it. What did you guys think or am I the only schmohawk that dropped $9 on this film?

I'd never even heard of it until I saw a few threads on a couple forums. What's the plot summary?

I could Google it, but meh.

I haven't seen it, but I was hoping it was as good as District 9. Glad I haven't had time to see it.

It's actually really funny and I almost started cracking up when they reveal the plot. SPOILER but not really a big deal. The text below is white to highlight to read.

Aliens descend to the earth to eat our brains.

BFD right? I never thought I would see such a cliche plot but it's the 90's and anything goes.

Not even close. IMO District 9 was EPIC and truly a work of art. It also helps to know Neill Blomkamp's previous work, dude has skills and will do big things in the future.

I know I say this a lot...but quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. I don't think I've cringed so long in a movie before. Any and all references to District 9 are there only to drum up ticket sales.

It looks to me like someone just tried to make Independence Day more "actiony." and failed.

Are you friggin' serious? Have you seen the previews? D9 was a MASTERPIECE. Skyline looks like a very generic action movie, with notably flat characters. It's not going to be as good as D9. It's not even going to be like a 20 Watt lightbulb next to D9's sun.

+1 Awesome film. Neill said that he was going to make a prequel or sequel to it, but hasn't decided yet. Can't wait for it!

From A.V. Club's Scott Tobias
That guy from Six Feet Under (Eric Balfour)—you know, the tall, skinny one with the drug problems—stars as one of a group of hotbodies convening in a Los Angeles penthouse for a birthday party. In the middle of the night, a series of beams of blue light shoot down from the sky, prompting many to fall into a hypnotic state and get beamed aboard a mothership hovering above the city like the one in District 9. The situation worsens when alien beings of various shapes and sizes fan out across the city and vacuum up the few remaining stragglers. Trapped in the penthouse, Six Feet Under guy, his pregnant girlfriend (Scottie Thompson), three other random good-looking people, and that guy from Dexter (David Zayas)—you know, the earnest one with the slight speech impediment—try to figure out how to escape their impending doom.
