First of i will start with an introduction, My name is Evan. I have been lurking on here for a little while, I have wanted a vert for a while but couldnt decide between the fc rx7 vert and the 240 vert untill...

i stumbled upon this sad little creation at a local wrecking yard.

so i towed it home where she sat for a few days. I got the itch quickly and decided to throw a cage in it right away.

caution Cell phone pix

Immediately stripped it out

Believe me this be-otch was dirrty i sprayed it with the hose and vacuumed it out more than once! while i was cleaning it out i found some paper work from when the car was purchased from a used car lot in 04 for 7k. i was pretty surprised that it sold for that much, but i am guessing it was in much better shape.

The picture police are pleased

My only concern thus far is this: What sanctioning body will let you run a roll bar without an x-member?

Those rear wheels are sweet though - I think so anyway.

Very cool! I love seeing things like this. Many many times I've wanted to go and just "walk" the junkyards and see what I can find

Looking forward to your progress.

LOL, i dont know man, this one was pretty ratty. Ripped top, broken back window. manual trans in the back seat, gear oil all over the seat and carpet, manual flywheel and suspension on the floor, windows down for over a year. There was about 2 inches of caked on dirt everywhere! Not to mention all the missing parts because after all this car is from a junk yard!

lol next update will be soon. just have to hunt down all the pix.

As far as i know no one will let me run the cage. I am sure i could get on the track though because i have seen much less on the track. But i do agree the x is a very integral part of a cage especially in a vert, once the top is removed on anything you loose a ton of strength.

lol the rears are better than the fronts, 1 spare tire and the other a stock alloy. The rear wheels are 14x7 0 offset made by western wheel, they sit pretty flush but not my style.

As for the guy who wanted to walk through the j-yards you would be surprised what you can find back there. I think the sweetest find was a 1JZ turbo that was stuffed in a soarer, umm sc300 i think, i didnt have enough funds and didnt want to drive the 2 hrs back home then back to the yard. If you have the chance go check out a yard or two do it.You never know whats to be had, thats where i got alot of parts for my rx7 turbo II swap, and pick a parts are fairly reasonably priced too.

ok i found more cage pix

A pillar bars going in

finished up with the halo

The cage was finished up besides the door bars so i decided to take it home and finish up the 5 speed swap. the car came with the trans, and flywheel but i had to dig everything else up.

i headed to the pick a part and found an 89 so i pulled the clutch pedal, clutch master hard line, speed sensor, and the odd ball 5 speed trans bolts. i dont remember what it cost me but it was well under 50 bucks.

Wavy overhead bar on the passenger side?

Actually both sides are wavy, we did this for max head room. If you look closely the top bars actually curve away from the heads of the driver and passenger. Originally I was going to have the top X'ed as well but it took away from the open air feel, as well as making it pretty much a helmet only car.

Hey guys feel free to post comments or questions, i will answer to the best of my ability. You can post likes and dislikes, i dont mind. I still have along way to go so input will be appreciated.

I picked up some carpet from a pick a part, it looks dirty but was actually pretty clean. i took a picture of the main difference between the coupe and the vert carpet... the seat belt location.

install is pretty straight forward. needs a little modification to fit but nothing serious.

How much do you think it was to make that cage in materials?

it only cost me 320 in materials. Roll cages are pretty cheap material wise its paying the fabricator that gets expensive... i will be cutting this cage out when i get home.

Check this out

check out the head room clearance... its almost non existent. thats a sparco speed with out a rail or brackets, its literally sitting on the floor. i have a recaro spg that i want to run and the head rest is a few inches taller and angle of the back are waay different. the recaro wont fit under the hoop and puts me to close to the steering wheel.

A vert in a junk yard. What a sad site. Glad it was saved by someone who knows what to do with it.

oh man im cutting it out. i am 5'11 so i am not too tall but if you saw it you would understand. And its too weak, not the strength just the style. i am going gangster, im in the middle of making a photoshop of what i want the next cage to look like.

ive done alot of research and still have more to go but i am going to build an epic vert... dare i say to rival azhitman and 110octane....

Much easier said then done....

Believe me, most of us are trying to follow that path, myself included. It's not easy. As long as you keep at it though, and you're having fun, that's all that really matters.

thanks for the kind words and the pep talk.

i have every intention of doing what i said. Ive worked upholstery, i paint...alot, i am learning how to fabricate, and i have a few friends that are capable of helping me complete this goal. I have 7 more months until i can work on the car again but thats 7 months of research and planing i have to help create a sweet vert.
