What exactly is Satellite radio pre-wiring? I see it is included with the SL Convenience Package, but I can't seem to find what specifically it is.

It means that you can install a satellite radio Sirius/XM etc... by just pluging it in or by using a factory module, it should have an auxillary input in the head unit just like some radios have the ipod input on the back of the deck.

Is it made specifically the "Internal" XM/Sirius units, or will it work with the portable units, such as the Roady XT?

Does it have a buit in control to XM in the radio, as long as you have it installed.

I am just confused because they seem to make it a big deal with the Convenience Pacakge, but never explain. I've looked at the Owners manual and it says NOTHING about it. Or maybe I am just dumb!

Maybe when (14 weeks and counting since ordered) I receive my V, I will better understand!

The "satellite pre-wiring" package as part of the Convenience package refers to a two-part system installed at the factory.

The first is a slightly different head unit that includes the ability to change to a satellite signal and control it from either the deck or steering wheel controls, and the second is the physical wiring that runs from the deck to the rear left corner of the car, where the installation point for a factory unit would be.

If you don't have the sunroof package, then you don't have an actual tuner installed, so you need to buy one.

ONLY the Nissan factory kit will fit AND be controlled by the deck/wheel controls. The kit, including a mounting bracket and antenna, is about $300, regardless of whether it's Sirius or XM.

You CAN use a Roady on any SL, regardless of whether or not it has the satellite pre-wiring, because it plugs into the AUX port on the front of the stereo. However, your must use the controls on the Roady for tuning, since the deck cannot control the roady through the aux port.

Because of my 1) obsessive neatness, 2) desire to use the wheel controls for tuning the satellite, and 3) desire to keep the aux port available for my iPod, I went ahead and sprang the $300 for the XM kit. It was well worth it in my opinion (and I know there are those who would disagree... we all have our own reasons for it, and only you can weigh those reasons for yourself)

Thanks EV, that is what I kind of thought, but I could never find that answer for sure.

I am very happy with my Roady XT, so I will probably stay with it. And, it really isn't that big of deal to unplug the Ax port from the XT to the iPod, so that is fine.

I have a Roady XT as well, on my Versa S... connected through a front aux input on a relatively inexpensive radio. I don't mind having to plug it in through the front. It doesn't look too bad, actually. I was amazed at how easy it was to run the antenna inside the car and out through the hatch in the back.

Are any of you guys experiencing the slight (but constant) background hissing sound that comes with the aux input connection? A buddy of mine told me to try attaching a ground loop isolator (with 3.5 plugs) to cut back on the noise. Think it would help any? I guess I could live with the noise in the background, but I'd rather not.

That happened with my V, but it wasn't significant enough to worry about (especially since I used the satellite far more often than the iPod).

It's more pronounced on my Legacy. I'm using a thin, retractable cable, so in my case there may be a possibility of inductive feedback. Does anyone have experience with various different amounts of shielding on these cables? Perhaps a higher quality cable might reduce or nearly eliminate this...

Hey.. So I was able to fix that ground loop noise problem that I'd been having with my Roady XT hooked up to the AUX input.

I ordered a PAC SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter. It was the only kind I could find that had 3.5 size input/output instead of RCA ones. Works perfectly!! Can't detect any static or humming noise at all. (If you get one though, make sure you hook it up the right way. I originally installed it backwards and it made the hissing noise *worse*. )

Now I just have to find a good way to hide the filter and aux cables and I'll be set.
