It is good business for Sirius/XM however, as they upsell customers new hardware & channel packages, much the same as microsoft does for Windows.
How much does a subscription cost? I see those adds for 5mos. $20.00, but auto subscriptions puts you to regular rates after the intro term expires!
If I'm honest, I have to say monthly rates are quite reasonable.
My contract started with a similar deal: 6 months for $25, the near the end of that period, they offered me 3 additional months for another $25. That gave me 9 months for $50. My current subscription includes "all access" plus live traffic and weather for each section of the country. (luckily my tuner is not yet obsolete). That is the highest priced package. The actual charge is $31 monthly and I set up auto-pay so it simply comes off my checking balance. I can review it online when I review and balance my account each month. They have never overcharged me. Unfortunately, they have NEVER forgotten to charge me either.
I reckon there are lower priced packages without the optional traffic and weather. What I like most is the lack of constant adverts on many channels. I have 15 preset channels to scroll through with my steering wheel. They include a symphony channel to keep my wits in traffic jams, CNN and BBC News to keep me informed, dance music, local stations live from NY, Chicago, and Boston, electronic music, The Blend, The Pulse, Christian Rock, etc. When I drive up to Maryland later this month, I select traffic / weather for Wash/Balto/metro area, so between my NAV and XM, I can avoid accidents and be prepared for temps and conditions before I even get to Maryland.
