Yup, I'm a youngin, but that means you have a chance at changing the future.
My mom is dead set on me taking an SAT Prep class this summer.
My argument: If I don't get it as it's being taught then I'm not going to get it. A class that tells me how to take a test isn't going to help much. I should take the test based on what I know, not on some silly additional skills and crap taught on the test. I made a 1240 on the PSAT, I think I'm doing alright.
In addition, the SAT is being changed in January, much to my dismay. However, I intend on taking it early (fall) in order to take the old test, as well as the new test later (aiming for early admission). Some schools will take the higher of the two scores.
The prep classes this summer will likely not cover the new test. Georgia Tech, for instance, will only be taking the new test, and thus it really will be useless for me to take a class on the old one. It may help my score on the old one, but since it's VERY likely I'll be going to school at Tech or Emory, it won't really matter.
The new test is a 2400 point test. Same as the old but with a new writing section, It is also geared towards minorities and women (who supposedly will get better scores than males).
I'm a white guy.
To reiterate: I'm definitely one of those people that if I don't get it as it's being taught then I'm not going to get it.
Thoughts?
