The only two complaints that I have heard -- poor visibility to the rear, and small rear door openings -- are true. My wife would have a hard time seeing back when in reverse. I suppose that it why they offer a rear view camera in the $4700 technology pkg. The rear door entry reminds me of the earlier Jeep Cherokees, with the wheel wells blocking a fair amount of the entry space.
However, once inside, all will be fogotten. Nice ride. I want one!
Sitting in it and driving it are two entirely different experiences. Personally, I love the looks and styling of the FX (although one friend derides them as a "blown up Pacer" - I think she's being unnecessarily harsh) but in terms of drivability, it's not all that and a bag of chips.
I drove the FX35 last summer when the lease was up on my (former) 1998 Q45. I found the vehicle to be lumbering and somewhat lethargic. You can certainly feel all of that mass as you get underway, and it adversely affects handling and acceleration in equal doses. Considering that the FX weighs at least 500 pounds more than the Q, even the FX45 would not solve all of these problems (even at the greatly increased expense of the FX45's price range), and it likely will never be considered as any sort of "sports" anything.
Of course, you must remember that I hate trucks and SUVs of any type. I think SUV stands for "super ugly vehicle" or "slow ungainly vehicle" and although Infiniti did their best to dispel these opinions, as a true "car guy," it would not be my first choice.
If, on the other hand, I had to drive a SUV, I probably would consider the FX. It is a neat concept. If they could lighten it by at least 1,000 pounds (not possible with our current state of metallurgic technology AND keeping the price reasonable), it would really be something.
