I am planning on sand blasting the engine bay/underbody basically anywhere where rust lives and is not visible when the bodypanels are back on. Then coat them with POR15? Your thoughts? Is it okay to sandblast the metal? Should I use a different blasting media?

Basically I want to make my car "rust proof" not just take it in for a oil spray, do it right. Also in the back of my mind is a acid dip (its in my mind because im a super anal guy) but thats probably overkill eh? Just need someone to tell me that ha. (most likely not going this way, just threw it out there like i said)

Any other suggestions, opinions?

Thanks

It depends on how serious the rust is. If its eaten through the sheet metal you'v got some problems. If its just mostly surface rust with a few bad spots you can sand blast and Por15 away. Por15 is a really good product, iv used it on numerous Jeeps and underbodys.

An acid dip? For a whole chassis?!? I didnt even know this was done.. Also, acid would probably do more harm than good, and it probably would dissolve more than just rust.. Just stick with sand blasting and Por-15, its a good mix.

there some one told me not to acid dip over kill for my situation, but I do hear of people doing such thing. anyways yes i fully understand about rot and stuff. If anything some surface rust is there. What I really want to know if its ok to sandblast the metal. Especially the underbody. It cant do any harm?
