Getting the seasons first snow fall in UT. How much weight would you all suggest putting in the back? Going from quattro last year to a RWD has been interesting. Thanks.

Wow, that's a lot of extra weight just to get traction! Move to Floridad where it doesn't snow.

I've never driven a RWD car in the winter, so we will see how I handle it wtih my 240. I remember seeing gibbo80 ahead of me going to school trying to get up the hill, and I would just putt along behind him in my FWD U13.

But putting weight after the rear wheels vs atop them [full tank of fuel] or back seat........dramatic shows the bad effects of a higher polar moment of interia....................skids.

150 pounds sounds about right. You may want to only go with 100 though to see how it handles first and then add as needed. No need to add additional weight if it isn't warranted. I have 500 in my Ranger, which has a substantially different wight distribution. I would really think about taking Creophus' advice and move to Florida.

Get some Blizzak WS 50's. I would add some weight as well, but not too much. You can blow your struts going over big bumps at higher speeds. I would say that 100 lbs with snow tires would be adequate.

ah, the joys of winter, I got my T bird stuck on a hill because I had to stop on it (damn stop signs and other cars!) thankfully a bob cat came out of nowhere like a Knight in shining armor and pulled me up it.

I think I'm gonna invest in some snow tires or a FWD beater (my old Integra was a breeze in bad weather) we tend to get a lot of ice under the snow here too:(

looks like a full tank of gas vs the half I usually get.

Q45tech, would it be that much better to get the weight on the back seats vs trunk? I rarely carry more than one passenger, so I wouldn't mind keeping it there. Thanks for the comments everyone.

During harsh winters, I've plowed into some nasty ditches in my otherwise grippy 1988 Sentra. Understeer is hell in the snow.

I agree with Jesda, if you put too much weight aft of the axle you'll probably get understeer. Best thing to do is get 4 Blizzacksput 4 20lb bags of rock salt in the trunk and I bet you'll never get stuck and if you do just open the trunk take out a bag of salt andSALT YOUR WHEELS. I will be doing this at the end of this month to the J.Terry C

Surely this qulifies as car abuse! Why no one is scouring Canada for pristine rides.
