So I've got a Nissan 300ZX that originally came with the Bose system(Posting in bose thread as well, but I dont think its the problem) and had a Sony head unit when I bought it.

The head unit plays the radio just fine, but as soon as you hit the source button to AUX or pop a CD in the sound stops.

The guy who had the car before me had all sorts of amps and/or subs spliced onto speaker wires, so I removed them but the problem persists.

Does anyone on this forum have any idea what the problem is with my stereo??? I really need help, Im tired of listening to the radio and would not like to shell out 50-60 bucks on an FM transmitter for the IPod.

Sounds like your headunit took a poo. You'll either need to get it fixed, replaced or buy an FM transmitter for your iPod.

Well...first things first...what you want to do is remove the head unit....and grab a chevy wrench. Take the chevy wrench and beat the living snot out of the sony head unit but before you do that try removing the head unit and looking at the harness...this is the harness that goes from the head unit into the factory wiring. Cut the blue wire and the blue and white wire and cross the two. Hyndai Tiberons and many other factory amplified stereos have the same problem. Just cross the two wires and you should be good.

I forgot to post that the head unit has an equalizer display, and shows sound then in AUX or CD. So I don't believe the head unit took a poo.

Like I said the head unit is fine. So, what you're telling me is that Tiberons have the same problem of playing the radio fine and cutting out when in another source??? and swapping these two wires would fix it???

Tiberons have factory amplified stereos...thats just the most recent car I ran into this problem with. Cross the two wires...the problem isn't between two sources it's between radio and anything else right? Basically what happened with your car (since most factory radios don't use a remote turn on lead) they don't have one. Crossing the two wires makes that happen for ya. Trust me. I promise if it doesn't fix it, it can't hurt anything. The amount of voltage goin between both the wires is identical They just power up at different times. Just trust me I do this all day everday...haha...the life of a professional ride pimper... (easier to say that than explain all the inns and outs of mobile electronics)

So which is the remote lead and which is the antenna lead, and wouldn't this have some other effect on my antenna if these wires are really switched???

Blue white is amp turn on and blue is antennea turn on. Will have absolutely no effect on your am/fm quality. This is the solution for your problem...not just a quick fix...now make sure you cross the wires and not loop them. Blue wire goes to Blue white....blue white goes to blue. The factory wiring is just backwards...this is the best way to do it so you can't screw up any factory connections.

I'll give it a shot early this week and let you know how it turns out. Even if it doesn't, thanks for your help.
