Salvage title from a motor swap?

I am buying a 240sx, the owner of it "rebuilt the motor to handle the turbo with lower conpression pistons", and he says it has a salvage title from the swap. Can you get branded titles from doing that? Also he says "the insurance company considers it as clean, it has a clean frame no damage other than a replaced door".

i carfaxed it, heres the title stuff in order.

02/02/2001WashingtonMotor Vehicle Dept.Longview, WATitle #XXXXXXXXX JUNK TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUEDLoan or lien reported

04/26/2001WashingtonMotor Vehicle Dept.Longview, WATitle #xxxxxxxxx JUNK TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUEDLoan or lien reported

04/30/2001OregonMotor Vehicle Dept.Clackamas, ORTitle #xxxxxxxx SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED

maybe im just paranoid about something, but any input or concerns would be nice.

It got a salvage title due to the fact it was insured took a lick that was more than the insured value and then totaled. You will not receive a junk title from a motor swap I should know -- I have a clean titled 240 with an sr20det in it. Junk titles come from body rebuilds.

things to consider year? mileage? and condition? I mean I usually use this rule of thumb..... 2-3 grand for an s13

4-5 grand for an s14.

I paid 4500 for my clean 96 but it is worth whatever you want to give and can get it for....

So, the answer is "no", a motor swap will not cause a title to change. If it has a salvage title it was written off via an insurance company at one time in its life.

as long as its branded rebuilt your fine

the wording might be different state to state, as yours said junk first and now salvage

in PA its a salvage title and then once you put it back on the road its an "R" title or reconstructed

just make sure your state has the same wording..... or that you can register it and inspect it the way it is

if so

3k is a decent price for a KA-T, as long as you trust the P/O with how well he knows when he put it together

Sorry for not replying, we went down 300 miles away to pick it up. At first look i wasnt pleased, its a bad rattle can job and there is holes from a spoiler and such. It was about 35 degrees out and the motor took awhile to warm up, but once it was warm is ran really good, well atleast in 2k+ rpms. It has helix 860cc injectors with a walboro 255 fuel pump, a megasquirt programmable EFI with USB hook up. It running 8psi at the moment, and it goes pretty good actually , and it drifts like a dream. Well tonight im taking pictures and ill make a new post about my new project

PS: im getting rid of those horrible headlights, driving home at 4 in the morning with those pieces of s*** sucked.

if the car is tuned for those injectors they shouldnt be too much unless he never plans on upping the boost
