I discovered a problem with the car last night. 1992 240 convertible, stock wheels, normal tires, 79,000 miles on the car, likely original struts, shocks, whatever.....On a smooth level surface, measuring from the same place on the front bumper right and left, the left side of the car is 2 inches lower than the right. In the rear measuring from a similar place, the right side is 1 inch lower than the left. Which gives it sort of a washrag appearance. I have notice the rear before but it didn't seem like much but the front is now fairly noticeable; sort of a washrag effect. Especially when you measure and know.As far as I am aware the car has been treated with kids gloves and not abused. I just had an alignment done about 3 months ago and it looked like the guy was taking some measurements and said things appeared to be fine under the car.Does anybody have any ideas as far as what the problem might be, where to start looking, and what to check as far as measurements myself, to really pinpoint what the problem may be, whether it may be struts, something bent that may not be outwardly obvious, etc.? thanks.

Rear driver side was 1 inch lower on mine. The problem was gone after I got new suspension. Can you measure all 4 corners and see how much you are off on each corner based on these numbers?

Whoa, seriously! I have the exact same problem but mine has been wrecked several time and I just assumed the chassis is bent. What catches my eye is that the left/ right front/back differences are the same on my car but slightly more pronounced. Mine has 98k miles on stock struts/springs and I know at least the rear are shot.

I wonder if the wear dynamics cause an uneven left/right sag in these cars over time. More in the left front and right rear. Perhaps new shocks/springs will alleviate this problem? I won't know for sure until i get new shocks/springs in the the summer when the ice melts up here and i can actually work on it again.

frame is probably crooked, the frames on the verts are wet noodles, I don't know why no one believes me when i say this, look at all the pics showing frame flex under cornering.. they need hardcore stiffening beyond the usual strut tower bars and other aesthetic devices.

unless you really believe that somehow the suspension mysteriouslly sagged on opposite sides and ends of the car.

possible, just not plausible.

so you think possible and reasonable have the same definition?

because you know a thesaurus only lists words that mean EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

omgwtf, pwning noobs is only for 3117. Sure 13375p33|< may bring rolfcopters and lolerskates but then you sound like a 14 year old boy pretending to be a haxxor p1rat3s, especially when postulating English language usage.

thanks, 240....I did not measure from those points as my article indicates. I will do that. I just thought it sort of odd that it would be off from side to side. And noticeable too. Has 80,000 on 16 years and it just might need some new stuff. thanks. But the frame information above may apply as well. My understanding is that it went in a ditch in its early years but that it wasn't anything that amounted to anything....i.e. nothing bent, didn't roll over, etc. Got pulled out by a wrecker and driverside scraped a mailbox and fumed the original owner. So, if a little scratch on the paint upset him, the incident couldn't have been much itself. ........ Now that I think about it, driverside?? scraped mailboxes?? what was he doing over on the......Think it was in a Delaware snowstorm, as I recall.........oh, well, back in '78 I ended up going thru 1/2 of my neighbor's lawn by the time I got out of my driveway and into the street pushing through snow that was up to the wheelwells with my '77 Celica with Goodyear F32's. Snow makes you do crazy stuff.....

Interestingly enough i measured my car last night and i have a very similar sag and didn't even notice it although mine seems to be one side high one side low. push down on high side and release and then remeasure and it is reversed.... go figure

I planed on updating the suspension anyway so we shall see if that fixes it.

Let me know how it goes for you i don't think i will be able to get around to it till the end of the semester anyway.

Perhaps its not plausible lol

13+ year old struts versus everyone's frame being bent? "The simplest explanation is usually the best."
