I have been experiencing some bug issues with some of the safety features that are on my SL AWD w/premium package.

During rain, my lane departure doesn't work. I was driving around last night on the highway during a rain storm and the lane departure wouldn't go off. I'm hoping it was because of the reflection of the water on the road... but now I'm wondering if the lane departure works at all at night.

My blind spot indicators go off at random times during the rain in the daytime and at night. They will indicate that there is a car beside me on both sides at the same time... but also just on one side when there is clearly no one there.

Anyone else experiencing any issues like this?

its the water droplets tricking the system

these systems are gimmicky and prone to false alarms. search the rogue section, as this was already covered somewhere (i forgot where exactly.)

As for the lane departure, the cameras have to be able to see the lines clearly. If it is raining at night, the roads can be dark and you cannot easily see the lines. I know that happens to me sometimes.

i do everything in my power to NOT get such systems. more things to break, go bad, cause distractions, etc.
i am fine with checking my mirrors & turning my head when i wanna switch lanes.

call me crazy; but now that more cars have gadgets and modules; i feel like drivers behave like they are jet-fighter pilots in open air space. they drive like lunatics and are very brazen to do so. they behave like some module or gadget will prevent a collision.

LDW doesn't work very well while it's raining because there is water on the camera lenses and also because it is a lot harder to see the reflective paint when it's wet. It does actually work very well at night, even better than it does during the day for me - as long as it's dry.

BSW youll see the orange lights randomly come on and off when it rains. You can't trust it when it's raining since the water droplets on the camera will fool it. You should never fully trust these safety systems anyway, always check your blind spot yourself. These safety systems should be for augmenting good driving practices, not trying to replace them.

Oh, I agree completely!

I will just have to get used to them... I was just worried there was a short or something.

Thanks!! :dblthumb:

Are the cameras in the side view mirrors the ones used for the blind spot warnings?

Nope...that's the rear camera. Same system as in the Altima.

You'll see similar problems with blind spot warnings in the rain. Splash from other cars and droplets on the camera lenses distort the distances and show as movement.

I've noticed that too - in moderate rain I tend to notice one or both sides come on and off when there are no cars around at all. It's not perfect by any means!
