i hear the sunroof thing is a non-issue, despite what people say...now i wanna know...who can get me a safety 21 cage? and will it be any cheaper then cusco after they go thru the process of getting it?

We can get a safety 21 cage for you. We are a cusco dealer but I can give you a lower price than Cusco will directly. If you are interested just email me at [email protected]

You're aware that the cusco and safety21 cages are essentially for looks only, and not valid for racing with any sanctioning body, right?

That is not true, Both Cusco and Safety 21 are sanctioned for D1 and Formula D. They have to be installed using a set guideline but they are usable. Both D1 and Formula D have the regulations available on their website.

I'm leaning towards the fact that the drifting sanctioning bodies only approved it due to sponsorship, but either way, that's news to me.

The cages are certainly not allowed for NHRA/IHRA/NASA/SCCA/etc... racing for various reasons, most noticeably tubing size and wall thickness.

I'm going to recommend against this if you plan on running on any national drag strip.

These cages are good for drifting, daily driving safety, etc.

But, if you plan on NHRA drag racing, or any track sports, these cages will not pass.

Rules are you can't have a cage that screws or snaps together.

If you want to pass tech for a racing organization, you have two options:

1) custom2) autopower, but I don't think autopower makes an S14 setup.

Not sure about autopower directly, but one of their biggest resellers is http://www.ioportracing.com

how cheap would an autopower cage be in comparison to a Safety21 cage w/ all the fixins? meaning the full cage w/ the cross bar in the rear and door bars

A full autopower cage can be had in a few different ways:

-bolt in roll bar ($270) + weld-on front cage part ($290)-bolt in full cage ($650)

I'm going the first route. Get the bolt in roll bar for now, then if the car ever becomes a full blown race car, get the front section and make it a cage.

Until you've driven a full-caged car around on the street (I have) you don't realize how much of a pain in the *** it is, not to mention how dangerous it is.

If you're going to street drive the car more than to just get to the track and back, just get the roll bar.

basically, do u need a full cage to go to track events? like scca, cuz im planning to doing that when i finish some minor repairs.

now, the prices you quoted, how accurate are those? cuz no matter what, it seems that if you get the bolt in and then the front weld you will save some money. well lemme know thanks again

I have to agree. It is a royal pain to get in and out of my fully caged S14. But the safety once you're in is unparralleld.

Trust me. The first time you lose it into a wall, or roll the car you will be glad you have the extra protection.

The prices are from http://www.ioportracing.comTheir customer support is awesome, if you have any questions at all, just call them.

What do you mean by "track events". IF you're just going to a NASA HPDE or other "track event", meaning not a race, then you don't need any cage/roll bar. I go to open track events at various places (willow springs, buttonwillow, las vegas motor speedway, etc.) pretty much monthly and don't need a roll-bar, harnesses, etc. For most track events all you need is a safe street car and a helmet.

If you're going to get into wheel to wheel racing (or solo I time trials) then you'll be needing a full cage.

ok, thanks again for all the info guys, this is a topic i have had in teh back of my mind for a while now. i love mountain driving, so like aries said, i will get it to have the peace of mind for while i am driving and teh thankfulness if a an accident occurs!!

as far as events go, i am interested in not just open drifting, but scca solo or autocross. i just wish i could talk to someone at a meet or something to get it explained to me. i went to their website had them send some stuff but i am still lost with all the info. and reading posts here about class, etc only confuses me more!! but yeah the bottom line is, i need it for the safety, and i want one that allows me to do scca or auto x.

so yeah, about I/O racing, how credible are they and how are they compared to other competitors? i want the BEST!! and how is there do they ship it to bay area cali? or do i gotta bring it there to be welded?

thanks again guys!

IO Port Racing is just a reseller. No matter who you buy an autopower cage from, the order goes to autopower where the cage/bar is made to order. It is then shipped freight from autopower straight to you. IO Port has good pricing, and their customer service rocks...I'd suggest buying from them.

As for getting info, feel free to email me or hit me up on AIM. I've been doing auto-x events for almost 5 years now, and open track events for the past 2 years, so I think I can answer some of the q's you may have :)

Doesn't say where you're from in your profile, but are you coming to the convention here in Vegas?

Name is 'msaskinrpi' on AIM, no quotes of course. If you send me a message and I don't respond, it's because the internet connection at my house has been sucking hardcore as of late, so sometimes AIM will just drop-out and won't give any message about it.
