Anyone here use safelite glass repair for their windshield replacement or repair? I got a big chip on my windshield the other day and I am looking for info on who would be a good vendor to use for the work....

If the dealer repairs or replaces the windsheisl that would be better.. but I don't think the insurance company covers work through the dealer.

Lots of glass places also do windshields. They can replace the entire windshield, if necessary, or repair chips. I suspect they would do a better job than the dealer simply because I doubt that the dealer does many windshields. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer subcontracted the job to an auto glass shop and jacked up the price to you.

The chip repair procedure is to fill the damaged area with a resin that has the same optical properties as the rest of the windshield. The damage almost disappears. It's not perfect, but it's at least 90% better. The place I have used charges $30 for the first chip and $15 for additional ones repaired at the same time. If your windshield is good except for a few chips, I would repair them rather than spend several hundred dollars for replacement.

We just used safelite at the recommendation of our insurance company to replace a side window on the '09 370Z (vandals broke it out in a failed attempt to enter the car).

They used factory glass and it is indistinguishable from the original. The trick to getting a good glass job is that you have to insist they use OEM (i.e. Nissan) glass. Also, most insurance policies have a special coverage for glass and if it can be repaired with the resin "kiss", they usually will cover it with no deductable, otherwise it comes under the comprehensive coverage on your policy.

Thanks for the info, i have full glass coverage so ill give it a try. its just a matter of finding a reputable glass repair place.... i was hoping i can do it through the dealer but the insurance company is all cheap about it. i'll give safelite a try... hopefully it wont turn into a horror story.

sorta pissed about what happened to my car in the last 3 weeks.... bumper damage, chipped windshield, scratches from a carwash... so annoying.

They're a reputable company. They can also come to your house for the repair/replacement in most cases so you don't have to go anywhere or sit in a waiting room. They did a job for me one time and it came out fine. You shouldn't have any issues.
