I'm looking at buying a 240 that has a RB already swapped in. Guy is asking 12k. He says that with 5psi of boost, it'll get 30+ mpg, and with more, who cares about mileage.

I wanted to make sure there was no limit on how low of boost you could run. It would be my first turbo car, so I don't want to screw it up.

Also, anyone know how high of boost would be "safe"?

either the guy has a big air leak on the stock turbo or hes got an external wastegate with a 5psi sping in it on the car because stock boost on an rb25 is 7psi. you cant go any lower than that

Well, he has a electronic boost controller. What difference does that make?

And also, it doesn't hurt an engine to go lower than stock, correct? (Like I said, this would be my first turboed car)

no less boost wont hurt the motor, but i dont know about 30+ mpg's inline 6's are gas whores, but i guess if you drive like 50mph on the freeway then 30mpgs is doable, but who buys an rb25det powered 240 for mpg?

Not buying it specifically for gas mileage. However, if I'm going to travel any distance and don't plan on flooring it everywhere, squeezing more gas mileage is always good. With these prices, it makes a bit of difference!

I didn't think it would hurt it, but I figure it's always good to make sure.

it is impossible to get your boost lower than stock unless he has a different wastegate on there. electronic boost controller doesnt make any difference

12k for a rb powered 240 on 5lbs??lil much if you ask me..mod list??

And the evc don't matter,it only turns the boost UP,you CANNOT go lower that what your wastegate spring is.

When I got my RB installed it was running 4lbs of boost on stock waste gate. So who knows, But gas mileage, I drove mine 1 time to my work and back 120 mile round trip. I got on it a few times too, Still averaged 25MPG @ 10lbs of boost.
