The only thing i know about the safcII is that its a tuning device.......thats it. Can anybody tell me what it's good for and is installation relatively easy? I am not a big electronics guy, but i can hook up gauges and stereos. Is this something i could install myself? At around 200 bucks, its in my price range, and i see in other threads that they can be put to good use. Total NOOB question, but if you never ask, you will never know , right?

ok here is my rant on the SAFC's

on a RB(sr or ca) the ignition timing maps are based off of airflow. since your changing your airflow via the SAFC it will play absolute HELL with your ignition timing. i dont mean your base timing, i mean your total advance like under wide open throttle.

i do NOT reccomend using one of those unless you are only making VERY small adjustments.

as for how easy it is to use. you need a wideband o2 sensor. period. an AF gauge will not cut it. you cant do any good changes to it without a wideband. something like the AEM UEGO. without knowing how the engine is running its all guesswork and you can very quickly damage your engine.

to properly use one of these you need to use it in conjunction with a chipped ecu, the intercepted maf signal will be too 'off base' for the ecu to make good power with.

sounds like something i will pass up on. So it sounds like the best tuning tool i can pick up would be a wideband. are there any good wideband set ups for around 300 bucks? any brand i should stay away from?

i run a tech edge wideband in conjunction with my greddy e-01, the boost controler display is used as the wideband's output so i can cut boost if afr's get too sketch.http://www.wbo2.com, they have quite a few widebands to choose from...

As far as installation goes on the SAFC II...mine took me about 30 minutes to install. But if I had the choice I would have def. went another route that the SAFC. I'm running 440cc injectors on my car, and have to take wayyy too much fuel out in upper rpm in order to correct for the richness. Like Carl said, it should be used in conjunction with a chipped ECU so you can use the SAFC to tweak.
