a friend of mine said im going to need to get an SAFC when i do my engine swap, he also said that if i get an SAFC then i wont need to upgrade my ECU because it does just about the same thing.

first of all what the hell is an SAFC? second of all is it true that an SAFC do as good as an upgraded ECU?

let me preface this by saying I have not used a saffc nor have I shipped an ECU, I "think" that the ecu chips also alter your timing for the extra boost, and the safc is better suited to fine tuning the fuel mixture, unless your planning on using say a jwt chip with the appropriate injectors and turbo's I'd look into a piggyback like e-manage or a full stand alone, when playing with high boost it's easy to grenade your engine and a prepper system could save you the expense of a rebuild, from what i have observed if you go over 400 whp you need to have a piggyback ro full stand alone

Your friend is wrong. Don't listen to him.

You need an ECU upgrade on a Z32. Period.

The S-AFC is handy as an add on fine tuning unit but is very very different from the ECU upgrade.

as i stated before im in the process of doing a vg30dett swap on my na z. i was wondering, that new engine is gonna come with the stock ecu correct? if i put a stage 3 ecu upgrade, and an safc, on the car as soon as i do the swap will that be bad? im not sure what the different stages mean, maybe how much horsepower it can handle or something, but i dnt know to much about engine electronics.

Meh, you wont need the SAFC unless you are fine tuning for High HP numbers! The ECU stages will work fine for Hundreds of horsepower over stock!
