Im not sure which one I want to go with. I was going to get a SAFC NEO with a CONSULT connector and what not, that way I could diagnose and tune. But now Im hearing all this about daughterboards and eproms etc, and Im not really sure which is better. My power goal is about 350-400 rwhp, mid 12's. My friends are pretty good tuners, but I dunno how hard it is to tune eproms. I searched but found very little on either option for this site. Is the safc neo plenty capable as far as tuning, or would stepping up to the eprom be worth it, and still self tunable once I get to learn a little more about it.

id say daughter board and eeprom....but it depends on who is tuning it. The safc is more user friendly (more idiot proof) and the daughter boards take more of a refined tuner to get right....i have a scott avoy burn (enthalpy tune) 442rwhp i rec him to do a rom burn any day of the week

with the neo you can do a ballpark tune yourself and then have someone who knows sr's and tuning like the back of their hand give your a tip top tune. Having your friends tune your sr IMO is not a good idea if they are not sr guys..just because they know how to tune doesnt mean they should tune for you if they dont know anything about sr's..but then again they may be sr guys and in that case if you fee comfortable letting them then do that it would be a lot cheaper. IMO however nobody tunes better eproms for sr's then jwt, enthalpy, or xat. An eprom would be the cheapest even though the neo is less than a mail order eprom tune you have to figure how much the dyno tune for the neo would cost. both can handle your power goals just fine

I always worried that mail order eprom tunes arent reliable, since they arent actually taking my car onto the dyno, they are just assuming based on my parts that they tune it right. The only local tuning company i trust is gsc motorsports, maybe you guys have heard of them.

They said afc neo and z32 mafs. Their tuner has a 470 rwhp sr20det s13, along with a 750 rwhp supra and a 723 hp gtr34. Seems like them dyno tuning the afc neo might be the way to go, how much more indepth can a eprom tune be for something that isnt even gonna be there for them to actually dyno to tune.

your source sounds like a good tuner and sounds trustworthy. However i've spoken to enthalpy many times. The guy chris who works their and answer the emails told me that he had scott tune him a mail order tune and then he stuck it on the dyno and everything was right on. perfect timing, a/f ratios no detonation..he said they then advanced the timing and only saw a 3-5 hp gain on the dyno..so to me scotts mailorders are pretty much like a dyno tune..He caters to many guys and has many tunes..what they do is just copy a tune from another customer who has the same exact tune as you do so they know it will work. and like i said his mail orders are pretty much tip top ..but its all what you feel more comfortable going with.
