i have an rb20 at the moment. this car already came with a safc, and its nothing but trouble. From what I'm reading too it also messes with timing? So my question is is there any way i can zero out everything but still use it for a gauge reading (ex. Tach) ? I can't wait for a Nistune!

SAFC is only air fuel adjustments. however there are interfaced that allow for more. Nistune is your cheapest option for that since you dont have VTC

Are you familiar with safc's? Honestly i hate the dang thing its nothing but problems. I initialized it and it sets all the hot-wire sensors and all the other stuff to default, and for at least a minute or 2 my car pulls like no other! then after that it'll hesitate from 2k till 4k then it'll pull. When i initialized it the hot sensors are back to 1 in and 1 out. So i tried what everyone else says running a z32 MAF to 2 in 4 out, it'll idle high around 1100 but no hesitation from the lower rpms and a slight hesitation in the higher rpms around 5500 and over. so i tried 2 in 2 out and it does almost the same thing. The only time the car runs pristine is when i reset it but i think after so long the ecu senses the safc, I wan a rip this dang thing out! because as soon as i reset it the car has never pulled as hard as it did in those 2 mins. What do i go by taking it off? soldering anything?

I ran across a pretty good write up in the rwd sr forum on how to install an safc, it involved a trash can. :chuckle:

Yeah do the nistune. A SAFC is no good IMO, however the AEM FIC isn't bad for vehicle with no options. Due to the mild build I am doing with my all-trac I am considering it.

yeah. I'm thinking about getting an rb25 turbo or some t3 and bigger fuel injectors before i get the nistune, i wish there was a shop around my area or a few hours away to get it dynoed. Another question, the car has a z32 MAF, i don't know if my car is tuned for that so could that cause my high idling problem? The only reason why i even considered keeping the safc is for the knock sensor and the tach. As of now I'm out a tach because the cluster thats on there the tach acts funny like sometimes it bounces and it reads i think over 1k to high.

the car does need to be tuned for the z32 MAF and it can be done with the AFC but youll need to change hotwire setting for the MAF and then tune it. the manuel will tell u which hotwire setting to use based on what MAF u are using, if u dont have it, check ther website. it should all be on ther.

i don't have the safe anymore, i threw it in the dumpster.......... I was just asking because i don't know for sure if my ecu was tuned for the z32 MAF. So i asked if it wasn't could that cause my high idle problem?

If you ECU is stock it's not tuned for it. Using it would miscalculate the incoming air CFM on the tables and throw off the AF ratio. This is what you could use the SAFC for, but at the end of the day it's just not the best option. What you really want to do is use something that supports MAP and a IAT sensor.

Another option is a d jetro power FC for the RB26. You can find those for about 500-600 used and you can use it with a RB20 with some pin chnages

personally, i would avoid driving it while u have the z32 MAF in there without it being tuned for it. im not sure what damage it could cause if any but i wouldnt risk it.
do u know if there is bigger in it too?

no just stock at the moment. Im looking into Turbo upgrade. I was thinking an RB25 with 370cc injectors. My choices are open at the moment
