Tonight I was heading home from Gainesville, FL to St. Pete, FL. I had been worried the whole way there and back about my alternator- battery light was acting up a bit. So just as i think Ive made it ok (got into tampa), everthing went to s***. At first it sounded as though my engine was trying to escape my car through the exhaust, and dear god i have never seen so much smoke. Even through all this commotion, the motor managed to keep running for another 10-15 seconds so that i could get over to the shoulder and stop. I'm not absolutely positive, but from what i can tell, i threw a rod (judging by the silver- dollar sized hole in the block, i'd say thats what happened.) I guess there is really no point to this post other than to get some sympathy and suggestions.

Sr20 or Ca18.

Buying a whole new car will be more expensive, and the car will most likely be slower than your 240 with one of the engines I listed.

Nick.
