I guess its inevitable as a car ages, but I've noticed in since January two G50s dithed on the side of the road with tow-away warning stickers.

I guess the silver lining is that more will be appearing in junkyards for me to pick apart.

I would do some research, but most states have a law that allows you to pick up abandoned cars after a certain number of days.

In Birmingham, a towing service has the contract to pick-up abandoned cars. They store them for a certain amount of time, then hold absolute auctions for them once a month. I used to go to them, but never saw anything worth bidding on, really.

I look at them like roadkill... if it's dead by the side of the road, and no one else wants them...

Well...no one should care if I decide to make a nice dinner out of it. Right?

The problem with taking abandoned Q's is how to get rid of them when you're done taking parts. I had the same dilemma last year with an abandoned Q at work. Salvage yards and charitables won't take them without a pink slip. So unless you bury it in your backyard or dump it on the side of the road (irresponsible) you're stuck with the chassis.

You need to move to Minnesotta... land of 10,000 lakes.

No one mentions that the lakes are full of old cars...

Most of the scrap metal places will take cars with no title. (They pay 7.25 cents per pound! They just get a copy of your ID and address, in case the police come looking. My dad runs a towing service and picks up abandoned cars all the time.

The law in TN pretty much states the the car is free game 14 days after the 3day warning expires.

How is leaving it back on the side of the road - the same place where you found it - "irresponsible"? You're not adding any vehicles to the side of the road that weren't there already - and you've helped to "recycle" some of the parts in the process!
