Anyone running an SAFCII and know what knock reading numbers are high and should be concerned with? I hear some people have a reading of up to 50-60 when the car is cold. Is that OK? what's the highest it can go before worrying about it?

I've seen over 100 when I had the very small turbo on the car. Now that I have the larger one (T 3/T04E) running 8psi, I never see knock readings more than around 35-40, WOT, 80+* outside ambient temp.

Hope this helps. This, by the way, is on a stock KA24DE, 170k miles, unopened.

my SAFC would us to read knock at like 60-260. this was because i was running plugs that was only 1 step colder, and i had a restrictive *** intercooler. i would have to turn the timing down like crazy to save my engine.

now that i got a larger turbo, a better flowing intercooler, and better plugs, it never goes above 15. yeah.....

Interesting...my plugs are only one step colder.

I'm anxious to research this subject more in-depth. Perhaps later this year I will, but currently I have too many other researching projects happening.

yeah 1 step colder but i was also running 1 bar of boost and my intercooler was so restrictive, the turbo had to work extra hard to get 1 bar into the intake manifold. when i did a boost leak test, i had almost a 10 psi pressure drop. so thats why it was no good.

righ tnow i'm running two steps colder and i have no problems with knocking at all.
