Cliffs:
--Saab can't pay its suppliers. Normal practice is for suppliers to be paid well after the parts have been shipped, but because Saab is a high risk, suppliers do not want to extend additional credit. Negotiations are in progress while production shuts down.
--A Russian billionaire named Vladimir Antonov wants to buy 30% of Saab and keep Saab and Spyker going.
--The feds were opposed to Antonov's investment in Saab during GM's reorganization because of accusations of laundering and other crimes, but the FBI cleared him. Now the Swedish government is dragging its feet.

If the Swedish government continues to stand in the way, Saab will be gone by summer.

they will always have BMW and Audi?

I have a Saab tag line they can use for free in their adverts,

"every Saab owner has a sob story"

The ad can start with scripted interviews of real Saab owners telling about the time that their Saab caught on fire (93 turbo) or how it will not run if its raining outside ect ect lots of material here.

I just want to know where Saab will be buried so I don't piss on the wrong grave?

That must be a New England thing.

Around here, they can choose between a four-ringed or propeller-badged chariot. For the a-hole with more expensive taste, the Hummer dealer closed but there's always the option of a GTR.

If this thing with the Russian doesn't work out, I can imagine a private equity firm doing a strip and flip... if there's anything left to strip. I suspect gm is protective of its intellectual property.

That just perpetuates the idea that GM cars suck and cost too much.

Yes, Spyker owns them. The Swedes let Vladimir loan the company $48 million through one of his banks, enough to continue production. They're "working on the paperwork" for the other 252 million.
