Im trying really f***ING HARD right now not to freak out, because I dont think Ive ever been as f***in pissed with my car as I am right now.

I wanted to put the hose on from the oil drain tube to the block so I removed the nuts holding the drain tube to the turbo, one of the studs came out with it so I decided to seat the studs before I went any farther-thinking it couldnt hurt and I wanted to be safe it wasnt gonna just come off. Well the one stud stayed in and I started to seat it...and the whole peice of mother f***ing metal broke off. FRSport doesnt open til noon my time so I have to wait for the bastards to open.

Im going f***ING NUTS!!!!!! Looking back Im not sure if I even needed to seat the studs or if I was supposed to use bolts? It didnt come with bolts so I assumed the studs were used there and thought I was supposed to seat the stud.

Please someone tell me that what I did was correct and not iditotic so I dont have to pay another $800 for a turbocharger.

It looks like some 1 took a hammer to that oil drain flange . The threads must be very strong. I would have expected them to strip before breaking off a chunk of cast iron. Good luck with that my-friend.

"Hi Matt, unfortunately we found that Nissan do not offer any warranty. All of their parts are sold as is without warranty. I uploaded their warranty information on this link. Please take a look."

Im not at all happy with Nissan or FRSport.

So do you think it is a deffect? Or you just over torque it? I was looking at getting one but now you have me second guessing...

I really dont know, the nut wasnt even flush so I dont think I overtorqued it. Im gonna take another look when I make it out to my dads tonight & see if maybe I put the stud in wrong or something.

Dont buy it through FRSport though, its cheap there but they dont back it up. I dont know anyone else that has this issue so IDK if it was just with my specific one or what.

Wow that's beattt about the warrenty situation. FRsport is usually good, but I guess there is nothing they can do. Did you send them a picture of what happend?

I don't think you over tightened it. Seriously the thing should have stripped before it broke like that. Seems like a casting defect of some sort

I dont think there are suppose to be studs right there. My T28 had bolts, not studs.

Sorry dude. Just looked at the FSM and their pictures dont show any studs on the oil line.

Does anyone happen to know the right amount of torque for the studs you have to install in a new turbo?

I'm saying it's the right thing to do but the drain is not under high pressure because of the tiny holed restrector... maby if you get the good bolt seated on the good threaded side, maby you could get the other bolt on the broke side snug! It's a new $700 turbo, so I would try the best I could to make it work by all means.

Just some ideas to lighten your stress load. I don't know about welding cast iron, + welding that area with the housings on would seem crazy but even getting it tacked in place, running a tap threw so the bolt can snug nicely and making sure it don't leak, would make it work. You might get a crappy feeling every day for about a couple months but if it don't leak oil than it should be good to go. Just check for oil leaks every so often.

Thanks guys I cant weld the tube to the turbo but I am going to get the peice welded on, and use bolts once I find the right size.

Looking at the picture, I seems to me like trying to use the stud is what broke it off. Towards the mating surface, you can see where the threading has been flattened by the center part of the stud you used. I'm guessing the smooth part of the stud had enough diameter to create the pressure that popped off the chunk of metal. As was mentioned, luckily the oil drain isnt under pressure, so you should be safe if you use bolts and rely on the undamaged part. Remember to use a gasket

I have a torque wrench.

For ANYONE installing an S15 turbo and puting the oil drain pipe/tube on, make sure you use BOLTS!! Not studs, this is what Nissan says to do and if you use studs Nissan will not replace jack if you break something.
