What do you need to install a S15 turbo onto a S13 Blacktop. J-Spec.com says that you'll need to modify the oil return, turbo inlet, turbo hot pipe, o2 extension. Is this true, if so how? What parts would you need? If anyone has done this please responde with how you did yours. Thanks

I am going to try to resist giving you the old SEARCH thing but dude this info is posted multiple times on every 240sx/Nissan forum out there.

J-spec sounds right to me. you can widen the holes on the oil return, turbo inlet has to be cut/rewelded in the right orientations or you can get S14 inlet, outlet has to be cut/welded in the right orientation or you can get the S14 one I believe. Not sure on the hot pipe, on the one I did I had a shop cut/reweld the turbo outlet and no hot pipe mod was necessary. Don't know anything about the o2 extension either but the one I worked on did the Greddy O2 housing and I highly suggest some O2. Note that if you get the S15 turbo it has a cast devider wall in the turbine housing that conflicts with the Greddy O2. Basically both the turbo and Greddy O2 have the devider wall so one has to go.

It's not a bad idea to get a few new gaskets especially the 5 bolt turbo outlet gasket as that one is pretty flimsy and will break easily.

I think the stock hard turbo lines can be slightly bent to work but again this guy used Taka Motorsports stainless braid lines.

They have clocking plates for the popular turbo install.

Sorry this was intended to be an how to thread as I will be getting a S15 turbo and will be installing it in the next couple of weeks. I have searched but none have an exact how-to they just say what you need. I will be posting pictures of my progress as the time passes for the people that are interested and need the proper motivation to do it.

Who makes the adapter plates, how much do they normally run, and where can one purchase them?

Kazama makes the clocking plates to make the t28 install on an s13 sr20det a bolt on. Usually I see these go for 100 or less.

I isntalled one on my redtop and it was almost a bolt on. But I did it when the motor was out, I can imagine it would be pretty tough while the motor is still in the car. Anyways heres some nice tips for you:

-I used all the factory lines, they just require a little bending and moving, although this might be close to impossible while the motor is still in the car.-The comprssor outlet and inlet are completely off, I have custom intercooler piping so it wasnt a big deal and I just fabbed up an intake for it with some 2.5" pipe so I didnt need to cut and reweld the intake pipe.- The oil return flange is differnt. I enlarged the mounting bolt holes on the t25 outlet flange and it worked fine, jsut make sure the actual opening of the flange is lined up wiht the turbos outlet. - The oil return hose is a bit off, but it works with a little longer, or shorter hose, I dont remember but youll see it when youre there -change the gaskets while you are in there and get on of those cheap ebay o2 housings, not the ones with a diverter or two tubes, it bolted on perfect.

The guy I was helping (or maybe it was he was watching) had the kazama clocking plates and the inlet worked fine but the outlet didn't work at all. It was like it clocked it in the wrong direction. Like vs. making the outlet straigt up it turned it more forward.

To the guy doing the swap...I think the reason you don't see a guide or anything like that is for the most part it is a remove old turbo/replace with new one swap. Just a few catches, lines need to be manuvered, oil drain fitting bolt holes widened (or purchase GT oil drain), turbo inlet/outlet.

One thing I don't know if it is a problem is oil pressure to the turbo. On most ball bearing turbos I think you are suppost to run a oil flow restrictor. If you use the stock lines I don't know how you do that. If you don't sometimes the oil will blow past the seals.

the turbo has a restrictor integrated into the oil inlet, just use the stock lines.

Here are some pics of the custom hot pipe and what not.

The turbos side by side.

S15 turbo with HKS actuator on Megan racing mani.

On the motor using all the oil and water lines.

The remainder of the lengths I had to remove from the Greddy S13 hotpipe.

All welded up.

Finished product.

Another shot.

Phase2motortend or enjuku racing has them. Or you can do like me and cut the stock ones and reclock them yourself and have them welded......much cheaper.
