Post

Hey you guys this is my first post here on Nico. My name is Joe Im 18, Im into the whole motorsports scene from drifting to f1 *hate nascar* and hope to become an f1 driver some day.... I honestly dont know the mechanic side of cars in general although I am slowly starting to learn*just learned what a piston was last month and I have been driving for 5 years...*. Any ways the reason for this post is I had a s13 and some douche crashed into me and now that its gone I am looking twards saving up for an s14. Of course Im looking into doing the whole sr20 spec-R swap but I read that the s15 has a 6 speed trans. From what I have seen ppl have the reg 5 speed when they did the swap and that seems to be just fine. What I want to know is what is the diff. performance wise if there are any, in using a 6 speed s15 transmission rather than a 5 speed and vice versa. Thank you all dor your time and help *hope I dont get flamed Im a noob with questions lol dont get frustrated pls*

People tend to ditch the 6 speed because it isn't as strong as the 5 speed. There might be something else involved fitment wise but I don't remember. But yeah, people say it's not as strong. But if you're not pushing big numbers, it would actually be beneficial on the street.

There is no reason to have a 6 speed sr transmission.

The 5 speed transmission sucks enough.

Why get one that sucks even more?

And before you say the, "I want a lower cruising gear", that won't help.

Final drive is the same. Only way to change it is by changing the ring and pinion gear in the diff.

the 6 speed transmission is like the honda atts trans on special prelude models, they are good for factory tuned cars but can not handle extra power. the s15 trans can only safely handel 300-350 hp at most but will slip gears or not hold on to them once shifted and some think thats a glass roof...i was thinking about it too but desided no to,even after concluding i wanted to make 350hp as my end goal. hope that helps and wear amor underwear to prevent getting raped on this site for asking question without searching first...it was discussed numorous times before zerosearch and type in key words before posting
