S15 transmission?

will the 6speed s15 transmission fit in a 97-98 240sx (s14) ive been looking all over and i cant find this info anywhere in the forums? and also the engine should fit fine right? it should just be a drop in or is that not true? i cant find anyone that has put an s15 engine n an s14 so im just makin sure everything will work before i order a clip

You need the rear diff, and I believe the driveshaft also. The speed sensor is in the diff. I don't know if you need anything else associated with the rear end after that.

The motor itself will drop right in. The transmission mount will require some modification (drilling) and such. The wiring is unknown because not many peeps do this to begin with, but I think it's not too different.

The wiring is unknown because not many peeps do this to begin with, but I think it's not too different.[/quote] the transmission mount does not need to be modified if you use the S15 mount.i just dropped mine in over the weekend.S15 into 96SE. every bolt lined up perfectly. the motor bolts right up like it was meant to be there.one of my friends made a wiring diagram for me, but he spent alot of time on it so i don't know if it's public domain yet or not. but if he gives it up i'll include it on the website i'm making documenting the whole procedure.oh yeah...the S15 diff requires the use of the s15 driveshaft,the output shafts are the same as S14 and the carrier bolts directly to the subframe.i haven't had to bust out a grinder or unibit yet:ylsuper ben

What kind of length differences are we talking here, KA transmission vs S15 transmission? and KA driveshaft vs SR driveshaft?

yes thanks for the info? is it true that the 6 speed transmission off the s15 is weaker then the other trannys if so is it gonna break or are the other 5 speed trannies just really strong and this one is a lil weakers but its still good?

Quote »What kind of length differences are we talking here, KA transmission vs S15 transmission? and KA driveshaft vs SR driveshaft?[/quote] i'm not sure about the length differences. i didn't measure, there's also an incompatability with the tailshaft on the transmission being of a different flange. next time i get a chance to spend some time on my car i'll take some photos,measurements.i don't know about the strength of the transmission other than the rumor is thats it's good to at least 350@the wheels. thats what i'm shooting for until i hear more/better info telling me otherwise. or until i take the damn thing apart and cryo treat it.
