I recently bought two slightly used turbos, but I would like some help selecting the one that would better fit my needs.

- HKS GT2540R A/R .64 (w/ T-25 flange)- S15 T28

Priorities:- roughly 300WHP with quick spooling and a broad power band. More is okay, but not at a huge lag penalty.- ability to fit with my existing setup- ease of installation- cost

My car:- 91 240sx w/ S13 SR20DET- 550cc injectors (prefer not to upgrade to 740cc)- Z32 fuel pump- stock T25 exhaust manifold (plan to port and use with new turbo)- FMIC- 3" turbo back piping- S-AFC- Z32 MAFS (will be installed with turbo)

Looking for a fun street car, with AutoX ability. I go to the drag strip once in a while, but pure 1/4 mi. time is a low priority.

I've done a lot of searching and reading on these forums, and it seems that the T28 would fit my needs, but I thought would ask for a direct comparison.

Opinions/Suggestions?Thanks!!

P.S. If you're interested in purchasing either of these two turbos, please email ([email protected]) or PM me. I don't want to turn this into a "Classifieds" thread.

The S15 turbo should get you to the 300whp mark with the mods you have there. It should also spool very well. If you're running the stock T25, then you'll need to bend some oil and coolant lines to make them fit, but it's very easy to do. Also, you'll need to cut and weld the compressor inlet tube. It needs to be rotated about 30 degrees if you want to use your stock intake piping and the like. But, that's about it, the O2 housing and all that good stuff will go right on.

About the 2540, from what I understand, it has pretty much the same HP capability as the 2530, but with more lag. So, it probably won't be your best choice for what you're after. I'd sell it if I were you, unless you're just feeling adventurous and want the extra HP that it can be put out, but it definitely won't have the spool of the S15 turbo.

Oh, and the 2540 will also bolt up in a similar manner to the S15 turbo, but I think it just has a flange built into the compressor housing, unlike the S15 turbo, which has a bolt on flange. If the inlet on the 2540 if real close to the stock intake pipe, you can just squeeze it on there, that's how my turbo is set up!

Oh yeah, one MORE thing. I don't know if they still do, but, jspec.com used to have the JDM S15 intake pipe so that you wouldn't have to get anything welded to hook up the intake on the S15 turbo. Hope that helps!

300 hp is about the limit on the t28. With good tuning you can get a little more but your power is going to dive off at the end. You honestly might want to sell both of them and get you a 2530/35.
