hi i pulled motor to do a kinda over haul and since i had it out , i got new turbo for it, only problem is i cant get the turbo to fit, it hits the manifold on the intake comp. housing, is there a way only to rotate the cold side? becuase i tried but the waste gate is held on with a bracket onthe compressor housing. is there a special bracket i need? and is the oil drain fitting same for both turbos? and another question is does anyone here have the secondary intake butterflies always open? i just thought about it no real advantage i guess. but anyone have it this way?

to make that turbo fit you can clock it. what you do is undo all the bolts around the intake side of the turbo, then you spin it wherever you need, and tighten them back up. The oil drain differs from the ca18 turbo, you will need to use the s15 or s13 one and a longer chunk of hose.

as for running the butterflys open all the time, the way we set them up here, without running the solenoid and all that other junk, theyre open right away anyways as soon as you touch the throttle, so i cant see any real gains from taking it off and removing them as opposed to just leaving them hooked up to constant vacuum.

well, as far as the butterflies go, they are still going to be restricting airflow even when completely open. i got rid of mine under the pretenses that anything in the way of air going into my combustion chambers is bad. if you still have them in there i would just hook them up and enjoy the bit of extra torque it gives you.

i think you can rotate the compressor housing by using circlip pliers on that big clip on the back of the housing. this should allow it to rotate, i think. i just notched my manifold slightly, and used a thicker gasket.

doesnt the s15 t28 not have a c clip? Mine had bolts holding the compressor housing, like 5 of them around the outside....

thats what im saying, if you loosen all teh bolts around the compressor side on the back, you can rotate the housing easily to make it work for ca18 manifold, then you just tighten them when you get it where you want it.

this garrett ive got in front of me uses a circlip. just depends on the turbo i guess. i would say have both handy, just in case.
