I need some help...and I've searched for days but can't find any threads to help. I'm putting a Spec-R S15 steering wheel in my vert but I need to know how to wire up the horn. Thanks for any info you can toss my way.

Here are some pics of the wheel:

horn *should* just be two wires - source & ground. plug the one from the steering column into the one from the wheel.

that's all i know... i can't get my horn to work with my s13 silvia steering wheel. it's plugged in... from there, i haven't really taken the time to mess with it. when someone cuts me off or gets in my way i just rev at them. i/h/e with hot cams and a test pipe is pretty loud and pissed-off sounding

unless there's some sort of weird connection in the s15 steering wheel, it should be easy. crack that bad boy open and let us see what you have to work with.

otherwise...

There's no metal ring on the back of that wheel for the post to connect to (compare it with your stock S13 wheel to see what I'm talking about - your S13 wheel will have 3 concentric rings for the horn and cruise control connections).

It looks like the three little dots at the very end of the hub might be the electrical connections for the airbag and horn. Maybe check an S14 w/ airbag or S15 FSM to see what's up with the electrical connections.

Er, don't accidentally trigger that airbag. It could maim ya.

I can't help you with your wiring question, but I can tell you that it will look wicked cool in your 'vert! Can't wait to see it.

uhm... yeah... the VERY FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO - take the cover off and remove the air bag. lol. that is, of course, if it wasn't all ready removed. you don't want to ruin your new wheel and get blasted in the face with that thing.

good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason I knew it would be a problem hooking up the horn is the absence of the contact rings on the S15 wheel. But I don't give a damn...even if I have to ghetto rig a horn button somewhere, the wheel is going on and the horn will work...maybe not with the steering wheel button but it will work. I'll open it up and take a few shots of what I have to work with in a little while. I had to buy a special set of tamper-proof torx bits to take off the air bag...think its a T30. Anyway...pics will follow. thanks!

Just put a horn button on the instrument cluster cover. It's only as ghetto as you make it look.

Ok so I decided to try and install my S15 steering wheel today or rather just wanted to see what was involved in hooking up the horn. I was planning on taking an old S13 steering wheel apart and robbing the contact rings off the back and somehow attaching it to the S15 wheel but when I get it apart the rings just didn't fit that great to the s15 without a bunch of fabing and I didn't want to mess up my great looking Silvia steering wheel. So I just installed it without the horn and I'll just wire it up later...I just got it inspected so I have a year to fix it...it should be very easy. Anyway...here are some pics...

Here is the back of the s13 wheel:

Here is the rings off the wheel:

Here is a before pic:

And after:

Here is a pic of my S15 shift knob:

Oh yeah. I took the cruise control switch out of the s13 steering wheel and I don't need it and was wondering if anyone else would like it...just pay for the shipping and it's yours. Pic:

wow... that looks fantastic!

i may just reconsider my options for later on down the road in my vert... like my stage 4 build that will be 5 years from now... lol.

anyways, here's a tip for taking close up pictures: there's a macro setting (should be - usually a flower-looking icon) on your digital camera. turn it on or adjust it. this will make close-up shots not be so blurry.

Thanks. as for the pictures I took them with my cell phone that's why they are crappy...plus it is pretty overcast outside today that's why the one's outdoors where not that great.

My buddy stopped by the shop and he didn't want me to change the MOMO wheel but after he saw the S15 wheel he liked it a lot better then the MOMO.

Oh yeah...it's in really bad shape...last guy that had it put black electrical tape around the worn leather...lol. It's not worth salvaging.

Well...sometimes...most of the time. Most of the discs I burn work but the last few haven't. But the old ones still never give me any trouble.

Thanks man. I love a lot of the S15 stuff...it seems to be more rare too. As a matter of fact I have a new set of black and red S15 floormats that are going in my car soon as I put the new black carpet in. Here are a few pics...they look dirty but in person they look brand new:

Oh yeah...and they fit great too.

Yeah, I love s15 stuff too, but they are expensive. There's a steering wheel from s15 limited model on eBay right now. I wonder what's the deal with this 'limited' model. Looks like they matched car and steering wheel. I like yours better.

Yeah I saw that one....I don't really like it...what's up with the grayish blueish parts on the 10 and 2 positions? Looks older then the spec-R stuff like mine. I know the spec-R stuff is trimmed in red...think the spec-S stuff is trimmed in blue...so this might be a spec-S wheel but not sure. Anyone?

I got it from a guy in Japan for just under $200 shipped. I got the knob for about $60 from another guy in Japan and the mats I got from a guy here in the states for $80.

Too bad you couldn't retrofit the SRS - then it would be worth $250. It does look cool though.... Still, that's half the price of a new exhaust from BRM!

Didn't want to make a new thread, I'm wondering about the size of the S15 wheel. It looks a little bigger than S14, is it so?
