I have been told that a rebuild involving new pistons and rings and the rest of the internals is a bad idea for longevity of the motor. I have also been told the opposite. Im looking for a dependable daily driver out of the normal s15 sr20det. Any ideas on how i can accomo date my needs?

That makes no sense! If you rebuild a motor it will last longer. A full rebuild=pistons, rings, bearings, timing set, oil pump, gaskets, freeze plugs, every thing in the head, head bolts, water pump, thermostat...+ Im sure there's more. Then you should have things checked out like: head, block(+bore), rods, crank.....+ im sure there's more. Then its a good idea to have your whole rotating Assembly balanced because SR's rotate faster than 6000rpm.

You can change as little as the bearings and pistons/rings or you can do everything.

You can use oem parts or go aftermarket

A rebuild is basically a brand new engine! Why the hell would someone say its not as reliable? That makes no sense. Unless you do some crazy rebuild with like a fully built SR and stuff. But if you do an OEM build it should be SET for awhile.

That statement is probably based on the assertion that many times when an engine is rebuilt the reuild quality is not as good as the original manufacturer. So the engine may have new parts, but clearances, tolerances, and other specs may be incorrect.

It wouldnt be the first time ive heard of someone getting a 240SX with a rebuilt engine and having issues with the engine.

But this is a human error issue, new parts put together properly will be better off in the long run. Though if the engine aint broke, why fix it now?
