hello,

the shop i got my car at is having some problems installing the s15 sr20det engine. mainly, the speed sensor and how to relay the information from the sensor to the gauge cluster. the shop asked me to look around on the internet and see what i can turn up to solve this problem. can any one help?? anyone have a s15 motor or have worked on a s15 motor or just know about the install? i need to know if: 1) the s15 gauge cluster is necessary for the install. 2) i need to get a diff with the speed sensor in it (or can they somehow just get the sensor and place it in my existing diff). 3) the shop mentioned something about abs...my car does not have abs... did the s15's come with abs? and am i going to need that sensor for my swap?

i know i have more questions, i just can't think of any right now. i will get back to this thread

but please, if anyone can shed some light i would really appreciate it

until next post..... thank you

A lot of guys went with a S14 transmission. This way they don't have to worry about the differential. If you want to retain the 6 speed, then you have to get the differential. Unless anyone else have other suggestions.

From what I've heard about the S15 engines, you need the S15 transmission and diff. I guess that you could use a S14 transmission and diff... But when I was looking online at heavy throttle they sell the S15 engine sets and ONLY sell it as a set w/ the S15 transmission and diff. I believe that it is all necessary for the swap. You mgiht need to get the gauge cluster as well. I think that a lot of people that want an accurate speedometer even when doing a S13 or S14 SR20DET swap get the gauge cluster... could be wrong though as I don't have a whole lot of knowledge with the swaps. Just my 2 cents you could say...

I think for the speed sensor to work, you need the HLSD. For the HLSD to work, you need the HLSD-specific output shafts. For those, you need lots of $$$ and/or friends that work at chop shops in Japan.

I have the exact same problem. But yours might be solved by getting a programable Autometer speedo and get the signal off the driveline.

I thought about that approach except my S14 w/S15 6sp is my daily drive and I kinda want the ABS to work. From what I've heard so far w/internet & shops, a S15 rearend and the S15 cluster is the way to go. I'm still hoping someone will have a better solution than spending the bux to buy a rear end.
