Hi everyone!

I'm thinking of replacing my old turbo (some skyline r34 turbo i think - t25 or something like that) as it's almost dead , with a new stock s15 turbo... so I'm thinking of replace the stock smic too. I don't want an fmic as I see no point in it and want to keep the stock look...

Is it possible to install the s15 smic instead of the stock smic? What modifications are required for mod? Can I use the stock piping or is it better to replace it? If replaced, then with what? (I've seen some smic piping for s13 sr20det on ebay - will that work?)

also what are the advantages of the s15 smic over the stock setup?

Any info appreciated

Why not get a water to air intercooler? It will work AT LEAST as well as a SMIC, and will probably work BETTER than a SMIC, and a lot of FMIC setups. Check out http://www.frozenboost.com. That's where I'm getting my FMIC setup from. Make sure and check out their FAQ as well.

A water to air setup is better than a FMIC setup on almost all cars except a purely road-racing setup.

thanks! I've really haven't heard much about such setups, but will definitely look at that option as well.

also, forgot to mention - I'm going for 200hp at the wheels, my s13 is mostly for daily driving. that's the reason I decided to leave the smic setup.

is it possible to achieve my goals with an s15 turbo + smic on a full edm original ca18det car?

Most definitely. A smic should be more than adequate for that kind of power. The s15 unit should be just what you need. I would upgrade the intercooler piping though.

For 200HP, I'd actually go with an SR T25. It will be more responsive than the SR S15 T28, and will easily meet your HP goals. The side mount will easily handle 200HP as well.

Yeah but the S15 dual ball bearing t28 is a sweet little machine. And should he ever feel the need for more power (and he will) he can just throw in bigger injectors, crank the boost, and have it tuned.

sounds like a good solution =) although, a hate to admit that I still didn't research the s15 sr and ordinary sr turbo difference

what exactly needs to be done with piping? I'd be happy replacing the stock piping, because I want to have a clean & nice engine bay

That's most likely a Chinese turbo, so I'd recommend you to look another option. The Nissan S15 T28 or anything with Garrett logo stamped on would be good, but would require extra upgrades. A 2nd-hand SR-T25 might be the most cost effective choice to start with.
