so does anyone else drift on a helical cut diff??

i was running a helical cut this season and on my stock KA i just couldnt drift with it, it took me all season just to get some decent entrys, but it seamed like the car would loose momentum really fast, i ended up switching to a welded diff towards the end of the season and did like 100x better than i ever did with the helical cut.

im not bashing it because it was actually prety nice for grip driving, but it seems like to make the helical cut effective on the drift track you would need a car with a good amount of power.

i just want to make sure other people dont buy one of these hoping to drift and get dissapointed like i did.

anyone else have any good or bad opinions on the HLSD?

I was looking into a Helical before i bought my Skyline GTS VLSD. What your saying is they create to much understeer at initial turn in? Im suprised you dont feel that with your welded.

yes with the HLSD if you went into a turn like you would with an open, welded or 2 way diff there was alot of understeer, i had to compensate bye driving different then what i was used too, with the HLSD it didnt feel like i the rear end was pushing the car, it felt like the rear was just along for the ride if you understand what im saying (not sure of a better way to describe it lol), with that diff i had to focus more on weight transfer and where and how to enter the turn, wich actually was good because i learned alot but for what little power i had it was no good for keeping a drift going once i got down to lower speed.

i take it youve never drove a welded diff car? its not like that at all, actually i havent noticed any more understeer than what i did with an open diff, the wleded diff, from my experience is predictable because it does the same thing everytime, and because i have a stock KA i dont have much power so ive noticed my driving relies heavily on throttle controle and steering.

if you have questions about what i said just ask, im not very good at explaning these things because i dont really pay attention when i drive i just go out and do it lol

Thats cool that a HLSD worked out for ya. I just couldnt find a used one at a good price. I drove a car that had a welded in it , and it was way harsh and did have a "push". But , everyone has their own driving style. My buddy is working on his s14 project car and he's wanting to buy a new HLSD. Its gonna cost him but he heard alot good things about them and plus he wants that oem reliability.

ya ive had open welded and viscous and the welded would make me understeer when i was trying to grip but if i was trying to drift it was nice cus it was alwayse slipping. i dont drift alot so my viscous is nice i dont notice any understeer with it and its driftable and grip happy. cant wait tho for hlsd im shopping right now

Hey slappy, how is that vlsd from the gts??? Some guy is selling em for 350 or so...and wanted to know if they eventually turn out to be open diffs like the s13/14 vlsds??? Thanx!

Oh and sorry for the thread jack!
