Yeah so, I wasn't quite sure if this should go in the suspension forum, the drift forum, or here. Hopefully, enough people see this here.

I know there's a lot of BS circulating around on what exactly is needed for this swap. Well, if you get yourself an s15 lsd pumpkin, nothing else is needed (unless you end up needing shims). The diff itself bolts right into the open diff or vlsd casing (s13 or s14). You'll want to swap your ring gear though (unless you want really low s15 gearing, then you can swap in the s15 pinion gear as well), which is as simple as bolt on, bolt off. Next you'll have to set the diff to factory backlash specs. If you don't have the gauge to do this, take it to someone who does. I ended up not needing any additional shims though. Oh, and I replaced my oil seals w/ new oem ones as well, but this is not necessary. At this point, you just bang in the S15 output shafts that came off of the s15 pumpkin. Now put the diff cover back on (I got a new gasket and I'd recommend you do the same), fill her up with oil, and you're good to go.

The HLSD is 100x better than the VLSD. It reacts much faster and when it locks, it's locked gooood. Turn in feels exactly the same (expected) and noise was increased only slightly...I can't really give a good opinion on that anyways because I also installed subframe collars. The diff itself cost me only $300. The new oil seals and gasket were around $70 total. All in all, this diff only cost me around $400 and was worth every penny. I highly recommend this if you are considering upgrading from an open diff to a vlsd. If you're all about the drift, you might want to save up for a clutch type diff. I have a drift event this coming weekend so I'll report back then and give you all my opinion.

a gasket for the rear cover isn't absolutely necessary, and i didn't feel like shelling out $12+ for a paper gasket when gasket maker works just as well. Hell, even the FSM suggests using gasket maker.

Yeah, I noticed that in the FSM too but I had already purchased the gasket and figured, ahh what the hell. The oil seals weren't in bad shape either. They definitely didn't need to be changed. Nissan kicks butt.

No, I got mine locally. I don't like using ebay for heavy items b/c you get raped on shipping. If you're having trouble finding one, I can probably get one for you for the same price ($300).

Yes, $300 for the complete pumpkin. Diff fluid was perfectly clear when it came out...damn thing looked new.

I'll give them a call this Friday and find out what's in stock. You'll have to pay shipping and handling of course and if you guys are serious, I'm going to have to figure out how to ship this stuff! lol Maybe you can buy from them directly? I'll find out. Either way, I'd like to help you out.

My IM is Dori X2 Mac

Remind me later this week when you see me online...I tend to forget things like this with all the school work I have and hours I spend at my job. I'm usually on at night around 8:00pm to 11:00pm ET.

I am trying to get hooked up with a HLSD also.

I even called NISMO and got prices for the output shafts and the HLSD.

If you can get the hook up for a whole HLSD pumpkin I will jump all over it. I am pretty much ready to buy now if it will be around the $300 price point you mentioned.

My email is [email protected] and my AIM is "darkrains"

Thanks

Ok, I'm going to visit them for sure on Friday and see what they have in stock and what they are expecting in future shipments.

I'm going to make the cut off here, you 3 that replied only, so no more requests please!

If everything goes well, maybe I'll start selling these things in the for sale section. I'm super busy as it is though, so I doubt it.

Updates this Friday!

I'll see how many they have (if they even have any) on Friday. They'll be able to tell me what they are expecting to recieve as well.

I've updated my profile w/ my AIM as well. Let me know who you are when you contact me.

Well unfortunately fellas, they didn't get any s15 subframes/diffs in the last shipment. Their next shipment is due for arrival sometime in January. They do have a bunch of vlsds, but I'm sure you all could source those easily.

Apologies!

If you want, contact me in Jan and I'll look again.

Some 350z's have an open diff (how gay is that) and others have VLSD.

I drifted this past weekend and the difference was night and day. The HLSD is really awesome. I can't compare to a clutch LSD though since I've never drifted with one, but the HLSD is quiet, locks great, cheap, and low maintenance...so it works perfectly for me. I have no desire to swap it out...not even the slightest. I'm 110% happy with my choice!

i'm looking for a set of output shafts, could you check for those too when you go back? unless they have an entire pumpkin, i would rather have that anyway.

a couple of things that I have not seen mentioned in this posting which I figured should be since this maybe where people look when they install the s15 diff. First off the typical gear oil suggest by nissan for most diffs is 70w-90 however for the s15 HLSD they suggest the 85w-140. Not sure how imperitive that is but it is what I have running in mine. Also everyone has only praised the HLSD but one thing that has not been noted about the HLSD is that it has a limited ablity to split torque which is about 75-25. So this is not that important once you are driving but coming from a complete stop making a 90+ degree turn you car will need a higher spilt. So if you get on the gas just a little you will squeal your tires even if you are not trying to. Now dont get me wronge I love my HLSD but I am just leting everyone who thinks the thing is some sort of black majic that works perfic know there are some draw backs. Also the 85w-140 is a pain to find. I belive it took 1.5 pints or liters or whatever size bottel gear oil is sold in.
