Yeah so, I wasn't quite sure if this should go in the suspension forum, the drift forum, or here. Hopefully, enough people see this here.
I know there's a lot of BS circulating around on what exactly is needed for this swap. Well, if you get yourself an s15 lsd pumpkin, nothing else is needed (unless you end up needing shims). The diff itself bolts right into the open diff or vlsd casing (s13 or s14). You'll want to swap your ring gear though (unless you want really low s15 gearing, then you can swap in the s15 pinion gear as well), which is as simple as bolt on, bolt off. Next you'll have to set the diff to factory backlash specs. If you don't have the gauge to do this, take it to someone who does. I ended up not needing any additional shims though. Oh, and I replaced my oil seals w/ new oem ones as well, but this is not necessary. At this point, you just bang in the S15 output shafts that came off of the s15 pumpkin. Now put the diff cover back on (I got a new gasket and I'd recommend you do the same), fill her up with oil, and you're good to go.
The HLSD is 100x better than the VLSD. It reacts much faster and when it locks, it's locked gooood. Turn in feels exactly the same (expected) and noise was increased only slightly...I can't really give a good opinion on that anyways because I also installed subframe collars. The diff itself cost me only $300. The new oil seals and gasket were around $70 total. All in all, this diff only cost me around $400 and was worth every penny. I highly recommend this if you are considering upgrading from an open diff to a vlsd. If you're all about the drift, you might want to save up for a clutch type diff. I have a drift event this coming weekend so I'll report back then and give you all my opinion.
