so i recently purchased a s15 Helical lsd from a seller in japan...

the difference from an open diff to the hlsd is truely amazing and is by far the best thing i have done to my s13..

speed out of corners is great, and truely squats down and grabs... and lauching the car is awesome..

i know its been covered, but just wanted to give my 10/10 review on the s15 helical lsd :dblthumb: :dblthumb: :dblthumb:

Did you use a standard diff housing? the VLSD housing? I'm looking forward to installing mine in the winter.

How much did you pay for it? is it a drop in for an open s13 diff?

I still get stuck sometimes going into mine with my HLSD. You just have to carry some speed.

i got it for like 560 shipped, i had it expressed shipping from japan, and only took 5 days to get to my door after ordering it, but it think you can get it for like 450 if you want to wait like 4-12 weeks for shipping..lol

and it is a drop in, you need the shafts pictured above, and it isnt that bad of an install, there are many step by step instructions online, it was just time consumeing setting the backlash... but was well worth it

it just makes the car feels like a real sports car... it is alot of fun, and definatly worth the $$$

an open diff just takes the fun out of any power you have... and with my sr, it took all the fun out of it

with a hlsd you can actually use the power you have, it feels like a whole different car

.... but please note, i dont dirft  and i wouldnt suggest this for someone who does...

I installed one into my hatch about 3 years ago. It was a night and day difference. I still don't get all that much traction but instead of one wheel spinning stuipidly, two wheels are fighting for traction now. So I suppose that's a huge improvement. No problems with squirliness driving in the rain like other types of lsd. Drives just as smooth and quiet as an open diff, until you open up the throttle. I spent about $420 on mine shipped and I still feel it was well worth it. I daily drive and it suits me perfectly. I've teeter totter at driveways before but you just have to know how much gas to give when going into a driveway.

wow...where to start..

you weld your open diff to make it very easy to break traction to spin your tires'

the hlsd distributes different power to each rear wheel to compensate for loss traction, to get the best traction ( limited slip)

a hlsd is not a good diff for drifting, a welded diff is probably the cheapest best diff for drifting...

GOOGLE IT...

from what i'm reading the hlsd distributes power to the each wheel but not at the same time as a welded, 1.5, or 2.0? is that why it's not good for drifting? i can google it but i'd rather have conversation

yes generally you have the right thought. the hlsd will differently distribute power to each wheel to avoid loss of traction, and traction is something you dont want to have when you drift... :chuckle:

the hlsd enables you to get extreme grip when coming out of a corner, compared to drifting when all you want is wheel spin to drift

awesome thanks for the response :naughty: . so you have no intentions of drifting? my car is set up for grip but it's still fun to slide every now and then.

I love my HLSD so much because I don't drift. It's still very possible to get the rear to slide if you try though.
