s15 helical diff into s14 help?

I got my s15 helical with output shafts on ebay. Installed into my stock pumpkin without any problems. everything seemed great until I started to drive at low rpm. there is a distinct knocking that comes from the diff. I lifted the car to get a better look, everything looks good, however I can grab the output shafts and wiggle them slightly from side to side! Is it possible that they sent me the wrong output shafts? How many splines is the s15 shafts supposed to have? also can you direct me to a good article that explains how to shim the diff?

thanks, that is a great article, I had already read it. I did just pull the output shafts and I do have the correct ones, "thirty splines". what I am not clear on is the shims. I did not have any in the stock pumpkin and the diff did not come with any. can I just contact someone to place an order that will know exactly which ones that I need? Or does each diff wear differently and need to be fitted specifically at a shop? thanks Jason.
