I'm about to buy an '97 240 from my friend... and I wanted to get it converted to an S15... as well as a SR20DET... im new to all this so i wanted to know if anyone has and est. of how much its all going to cost... I have around 10k in the bank after buying the 240 and i wanted to see if i could get all the parts... my friend that im buying the 240 from said that if i got the parts he would do it all for me for free... Anyone?

~Thanks

i would say like 2500 for the s15 front and about 4k for the sr plus some little things to get it going. so 6.5k? or around

SR swap should cost about 5000 or more if you do it right (change all the basic parts like HG, waterpump, oil pump, spark plugs, oil, coolant, etc etc) all little things add up to the cost besides BPU stuff.

10k should be enough for the front end swap and SR20, but dont be too sure, hidden expenses do pop up.

But I implore you to reconsider, wait a bit and see if you get attatched to the stock front end.

haha can we come live with you

and gearshifter what kinda sr do u want? same with s15 too, the regular front will cost less than widebody/carbon fiber or aero or whatever. so it kinda depends, but u will have enough.

if you have 10k in the bank + money to buy a 97 240, you have enough to buy an m3 or a c5.

Sounds like a Trendy Trendy project... not like its been done before or anything.

Judgements aside, you will most likely need about 15K IMO, because you are not going to get away with a stock SR20DET if you have a S15 conversion on your 240... I personally would keep the stock front end because it flows with the lines of the car better (especially if it is a '97 for christ's sake). NOt that I am looking down on zenki's or anything.

Any ideas on how much it would cost for the whole thing... SR20DET swap(including the little things needed)... and the FULL S15 conversion... Whats so good about the Front end that i have now?... As well 240DRFT... Im thinking about the same SR as S15 too... I basicly want a S15.. but trying to keep it as 'legal' as possible... well of course im going to be bending the rules just a little...

The 97'-98' front end (hereafter called the kouki front end) is rather rare and sought after by S14 owners.

If you do an S15 front end swap though, you can sell the kouki front end for a LOT.

One question... is the car in your sig the car you have or what? Because the front on that car is not the kouki front... this means you either have a 95 or 96 or someone changed the front end of the car because it was in an accident or something.

InsanityInc... the thing is that I like S15s and I rather get an S15 than any of that!!!... The car never had an accident... from what my friend told me the car is completely clean... Okay... just looked throught the contract my friend and the contract says the car is stock... So does that mean he changed the front end before selling me the car?...

I hate to see people ruin rare 1997-1998 240SX's by putting the S15 front ends on them. The Kouki lights look much better than the S15 lights on the car IMO and if your going to do an S15 conversion why not just get a cheaper and more common Zenki S14 anyway? There are too few "mean eyed" kouki's around as it is. The kouki looks incredible in stock/non-converted form. It is your money though so obviously you can do whatever you want with it.

Do what you want. For what you are wanting to do after body work and paint and after the S15 SR with some bolt ons you will probably have used all of you 10K in the bank. Better off buying the car and maybe holding off for a little. Maybe do the swap, make sure its fine then start on the body. I would hate to see a project sold because somebody couldn't finish it due to financial reasons or loss of intrest.

different strokes for different folks. i personally like the s15 conversion. but thats my opnion i'm not trying to force it upon anyone.

secondly. you do have enough for a c5. i would honestly suggst you blow all 20k you have stashed somewhere on a nice bran new car. or better yet, buy a 2k car and put a down payment on a house.

as for cost estimate.......with your plans expect to blow all of it. ALL OF IT.

m3 = 60k out the door... 3k+ insurance for kids and unreliable as .... Bmw break my wallet... last a couple of years. only for ballers that can afford to dump the car every 3-4 years for another car.

i'm not a baller even if i can fork that much out for it once.. rather spend that shiz on the 13 and dump a sick blister kit, slam it, and put some insanely wide wheels with near rubbing fitment while tracking the crap out of the car

That's a brand new one. We're not talking about a brand new one (considering we're talking about C5 vettes, I figured that would have been apparent).

For all that mention that the front end of the Sig Pic is not a Kouki... its because my friend was trying to rip me off... he took off the kouki front end before selling me and he thought that i would not know that he did it... So now im going to be getting the Kouki front end back to my 240 and I think for now im just going to do the SR swap and get new subs and ampts... then going slowly from there... Anyone know how much it would cost for the SR swap...?

I beleive the cost of the swap was covered at the beginning of the thread but take a look at Phase2Motortrend, Heavy Throttle, Enjuku Racing, and any of the other sponsors when looking for the swap. They'll take care of you and won't give you a completely sh*tted out motor that won't start. Heavy throttle has a very informative FAQ on the SR swap that should answer a lot of the basic swap questions you may have.

Here is an idea for you.

Sell your front end to someone and use that money towards a S15 conversion.

I know someone will buy the Kouki front end. Thoes are SEX!!! It would be hard for me to even to deside between the two.
