it is a posiblity, i know the 6 speed internals can be swaped into the 5 speed bellhousing if the 6 speed housing doesnt bolt up.

But that is besides the point, a 6 speed is pointless on a SR. More shifting and less go pedel time. Plus the 6 speed transmission is know to be weeker than the 5 speed one.

I didnt know the S15 6spd was weaker..hmm why are people doing the swap then? Especially if there is less "go"?

why would people do a twin turbo setup on a SR? Why would ricers put giant wings on the civics?

Some people do things just for the hell of saying they did it.

It's not known to be weaker, it's rumored to be weaker. I've read conflicting reports from magazines and overseas articles. It's rumored to be weaker b/c of the extra gear thrown into the same size housing...that's supposedly why 'drifters' change it. I've also read that is a bunch of crap and the only reason why people change it for the 5-speed is because they want less gears while drifting. Anyway, it's all just talk to me until anyone can prove anything.

Iv'e heard the samething. They switch for drifting mainly. I read the transmission holds fine up to and around 400-450. You have to remember these guys or atleast alot of these guys in Japan are pushing some serious horse on the track and blow alot of them and it is cheaper and more efficient to swap to a transmission that there are more available and at a lot less dinero to obtain.

well, regardless of wheather or not is is weaker, why the heck would you want to swap trannies anyway? are you really going to spend $1000-2000 for an extra gear? All it will do is make it more likely for you to mis-shift. And IMO, more gears means more shifting and less time that you foot is on the gas.

I would like to do it b/c im driving around alot and that extra gear ,means lower rpm's when going 80+ and saves me gas. Plus not alot of people can say hey i have a 6 speed s13:D.

You all need to forget about the s15 6 speed and start thinking bigger. 6 SPEED SEQUENTIAL GEARBOX. Its only $10k... jk

I too have heard the rumor of the s15 transmission being weaker, but I have seen no real proof.

Why don't you all put a 6 speed shift knob on your car to fool people instead. :D

um yea, six speed is for loosers... Infact I will call subaru to suggest doing away with the six speed gear box... And while Im at it I will suggest to SVT that the cobra be a 5 speed... no wait, a 3 speed!!! Ever wonder why LS1s get 30+mpg?

My LS1 NEVER got 30 mpg in sixth gear..and actually the Cobra WAS a 5 spd for many years...why do guys in Japan take their S15's and swap in 5 spds again? Oh yeah because it is better for drifting...on the strip you will never see 6th gear so it is a waste..then again these people are hardcore racers not sunday drivers..

I'm wondering, Do you just Make Up the information that you give out to people/?? You're completely misleading the hundreds of people that read this board.

The 6 speed has NO RELATION WHATSOEVER to the 5sp FS5W71C.

It has a different casingdifferent shifter assemblydifferent bellhousingdifferent widtht and center section location.

There is No Way you can put the s15 gears into a 5sp trans without turning on the welder.

Also. to use the S15 trans you'd need to use a S15 flywheel (sprung) and S15 clutch as well (un sprung)

my buddys ZO6 gets 35+mpg....my point was that most of the super cars and other such baller rides 9 times out of 10 are a six speed. Do r34 skylines swap out the six speed for the r33 five speed? And the cobra 5 speed was a piece, my friend snapped his at 400ft/lb tq, and now has a six speed in his 700hp/6??TQ 98 cobra.

well remember also, a lot of high end "baller" sports cars have super overdrive to make the big top end MPH numbers also. High gears (lower ratio) equals more mph. And actually the F-Body cars and Vettes incorporated the 6 spd also for emissions requirements. The T56's they use come factory with CAGS which makes the transmission skip shifts..this was also an EPA thing.
