s14 wiring problem...

So I'm finally finishing up my S14, and im putting the harness in i just got back from wiring specialties. Everything hooks up fine on the harness and it's totally fine.

Then I connect the starter from the cars harness and I think I have it right...not 100% sure. But heres what happens....it sounds stupid, but i didnt buy a battery yet, so to test out if everything works, I just used jumper cables on my hatch and connect them to the battery terminals on the s14.

Now before I conneceted the starter, everything on the car worked fine, but as soon as I connect the battery it sounds like something in the engine bay is winding up like crazy, and I'm guessing it's the starter? But i don't know? can anyone give me an idea what's going on?
